Foiling at Sherman?

Wow I didn't know it extended that far past the bouy! We got lucky during the races then as a few of us got pretty close to it a few times.

the buoy marks an old levee wall that extends both upwind and downwind of the buoy.

Can somebody draw this on a map and display on this thread please?

If someone is willing to do this, I imagine it would be helpful to all of us. The next time I see those guys at Sherman I will mention this forum topic. If no one has contributed a visual here yet, I'll ask them if they might be willing to share some more info.

Closer inspection since hitting that wall has revealed a slightly bent aluminum fuselage that will need to be replaced.

Apparently these aluminum + fiberglass foil setups for newbies are not as immune to damage from a good whack as we would like to believe. Staying well clear of that zone from now on, and saving up for a Sword so I won't have to worry about it happening again ;)

If you were really concerned you could always buy a nautical map of the area. It would give you a good understanding of the underwater terrain

It's the rectangle that says "wreckage". North of the first island, on the edge of the channel. Things you learn reading nautical charts: Sherman Island is actually the "third island" way upwind of the launch, I did not know that. Also we launch from a marsh.

Hmm, not so sure a carbon foil would have done much better, actually it could have been worse. One benefit of the aluminum is that it fails by bending once you pass some strength limit, as your fuselage has done. You can bend that back while waiting for a new one, although it will work harder a little and crack there eventually if you do it enough times. Carbon fails by breaking once you pass some strength limit. Then you get to try and repair the break with epoxy after some grinding and adding new bits of carbon to join all the fibers back together.
If you dig around near there you might find a front Sword wing buried in the mud from one unfortunate person :( I have a Sword 1 and I love it, it's strong but I know if I hit something I'm in for some repair work.
