Nice one Simon - do we know where this was filmed?

The wind direction must be somewhat different - this is the first real footage I've seen where the rider does a real(ish) cutback on the wave.

Kirk out

Kirk it might be a bit more on-shore. Sort of like when there is windswell out on the bay (moving in direction of the wind), you put your kite deep, and you can cutback down the swell and ride in the opposite direction of your kite - but you can only do it for so long.

But he also looks like he's really good at controlling kite momentum which is the same phenomenon that allows what I've described above. What I mean is he has his kite size, riding speed, and kite position dialed to the wave and wind speed AT THE MOMENT he enters the wave energy so that the kite is constantly drifting predictably like it's on autopilot or not even there.

This allows for things like riding in the opposite direction the kite is "moving" ... because let's face it, when the kite is at that balance point where it's just shy of pulling but it's not and is instead maintaining slight line tension and pivot-ability, is it REALLY moving relative to you and the wave at all?

If you don't believe his static kite drift is well matched to his board speed on the wave energy look again at 1:36 :]
