Foiling at Alameda

Post by Don Lester » Tue Feb 10, 2015 1:00 pm

So just learning to Foil and would like to ask the experienced Foilers who ride at Alameda what's it like as far as water depth. I know from experience on low tides it's pretty shallow. I also remember there are a few submerged rocks which sometimes have buoys attached.

What else ?

Its a great place to learn.. just make sure you go at high tide and body drag way out!! until your feet no longer touch the bottom, its pretty clear of obstacles except the line of rocks that goes between the shack and the bouy about 300 feet out from the Shack.

I would never go inside of that bouy over the line of rocks on any tide at all ever!!!!!!!!

Go there on a very low tide and walk the beach to get an idea of what the bottom looks like.

Other than thats its perfect because of the light steady winds which are ideal for learning.

Thanks Loscocco.........

Wasn't there an obstacle west and up wind from the kite shack, like maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 mile off shore ?

Seems to me I remember a buoy up there a few years back........

Yeah there used to be an old radio tower out there which was apparently completely removed down to the bottom recently. or so we hope.
