Someone has tried the Nobile NHP Split boards?

Post by willndao » Tue Oct 21, 2014 1:49 pm

Hi guys,

Does someone have tried the Nobile NHP split board? 2014 or 2015?

I can't decide if it's worth the crazily high price. I would say the higher price is compensated after about 3 trips without paying the extra fees at the airport ($150 round trip on Alaska Airlines for Los Cabos, MX). That sounds ok if it was a crazily good board, but I would guess the splitting mechanism impacts the performances, and it seems there would be more maintenance (and I'm afraid the mechanism would fail after a while...).

any insight?

I have tried NHP split board this summer when Nobile guys had a demo at 3rd avenue. I also have a couple years old NHP regular board which I ride all the time and like a lot. I had not noticed any difference when I was demoing the split board.

I own a split and the regular NHP board. Love them both the split has a little more flex in it. Very solid design and feel. Don't really like the Bindings put a set of Naish Apex Bindings on and it rocks. Took it with me to South Padre last year, you should know you will need a 31" piece of Luggage the standard 30" is a little to tight. I picked mine up at Ross in San Carlos pretty cheap.

$150 to take a twin tip to cabo?

it's $50 rt on UA if you keep the (golf) bag under 50# and 62". free if you use their mileage plus credit card.

for me that's 3 kites(in compression bags), twin tip, harness, helmet, shorty. (had to put the bar in my carry-on) your mileage may vary.

no additional charge on virgin and bag can be up to 109"

Thanks for the reply guys. Looks like the nhp split is a good board. I still can't tell the difference between the more recent version and the "old" one. I didn't find any clue on other websites/forums.

@Victor: You're right the overprice can be very low or non existent while using specific airlines. It limits your choices of destination though, sometimes you can't help having to chose an airline that is far less fair with Sports Equipment surcharges. And the golf bag trick works very very rarely nowadays (especially for classic Kiteboarding destinations where the baggage handler ground attendant usually can't get fooled anymore)

any halfway intelligent bag handlers are wise to the golf bag "trick", especially to and from well known kite destinations. besides that almost every time i've used mine there were also people in line with real golf bags full of golf clubs to compare to mine.

the bottom line is if your bag is within the allowed size and weight limits they cannot charge you any more than their published tariff says.

a functional split tt is a great idea for compactness just like two (or 3) piece windsurfing masts and fishing poles. a split tt , kite(s), bar(s) and misc. gear are still going to weigh the same if not more than if you are carrying a conventional tt.

i'd get a split tt if i drove a smart car.
