ddroc, on your previous post, where you originally posted your head cam video, I had posted my video to show the camrig perspective. I will post it again, cause I just can't get enough of my self: https://vimeo.com/94317885[/video]

would love to know what settings and video editing software this guy used, cause its so clean:

short comparison notes of the video modes
Too many choices, super confusing, which I could just figure out what works best for using the camrig. Until then I will just have to experiment.

Looks like by positioning the camera closer, the shakes are minimized. Looks like NW flow will arrive by the weekend, so some experimentation might be in order :)

So you bring up a really good point about the shaking being minimized by bringing the camera closer.

I purchased this helmet for mountain biking and it has a gopro mount on it. Found out that because of the way the helmet is constructed, it has an interior part that sits on your head and the outer shell is separate, which promotes airflow, but this causes excessive shaking to the camera. I ended up going back to my skate helmet, not as comfortable, but it sits directly on the head, apparently more stable for filming.

I took my video and cropped stretched to 16:9 format. So I think shooting at 1440p 48fps is a way to go. I just need to move the camera closer. The video editing software can then crop the squarish 4:3 image (where orientation of the camera is a non issue) to create a 16:9 widescreen version.

Edit:
This pretty helpful in explaining how the cropping can be done

Explains the difference between 960/1440 and 720/1080p very clearly. He describes how to get a better image if you are shooting film with a helmet mount, which fortunately we kiters don't have to rely on.
