Brian, thanks for getting my back. It's nice that most of the time, this forum stays constructive and respectful. Seem like the best way to keep it that way is to ignore those posters who aren't...

When I started this thread, I was hoping that someone would have some information about SI Park, such as "It's a wildlife preserve". Although I still wonder who decided that it was okay to pave over an acre or two of the preserve, but it's not okay to remove plants that the local Cal. Convservation Corps. is spending good money to remove from creek banks all through the Central Valley because they are invasive weed species. Anyway, thanks for the reality check I (don't remember the poster).

an awefull lot of mud being slung

Post by Guest » Thu Aug 25, 2005 9:29 pm

there is certainly an awefull lot of mud being slung around about SI.

this post started out talking about possibly expanding launch options and now its badmouthing a rippin young kid that slingshot supports.

pablito has been slammed.

zeev too and probably with good reason considering his last comments here "The outakes, including footage of the delta interaction w/pissed off pole boarders, would be a good chuckle". do you really think those comments are doing kiteboarding or SI any good whatsoever. who really gives a shit about the poleboarders. let them do their thing, but don't give them shit. some of them are just as amped about windsuring as kiteboarders are about kiting. let's all keep an open mind and have respect towards everyone at SI not just kiters! i really can't believe you wrote that shit zeev. is your sign "good winds" just for kiters?

jaime and sky sorted skated through the worst of it as they did pull off a huck session on the beach that didn't seem to piss anyone off as they have the skills to actually do that. most people do not.

gabe through in his two cents that where pretty much middle of the road lets make the peace. no wonder his is editor of a kite mag. nice work gabe.

constructive critisism is great. mud slinging is another. anonymous or signed everyone has the right to say what they think, but perhaps some folks ought to think a little harder about the big picture before they post.

after all, isn't this supposed to be a fun sport. let's not take the fun out of it.

Wow guys, I'm guessing that everyone is getting so worked up on the internet because there is no wind today? I'm pretty pissed about the wind to, but remember were all friends. I've come to realize that things said on forums arn't what we are really thinking. Some times it's hard to write what would be easy to say. If we were standing on the beach talking about the same subject would it get this hostile? SI is not one of the beaches with lots of drama. It's the beach with the cool vibe. Lets not forget that. I blame the internet!

NOW WHO'S UP FOR A DRINK!!!

I'd like to add another thought to the above guest post. I think one of the reasons we all love this site is that it isn't filled with bashing and just plain shit talking like some of the other kite forums. Let's try to keep it that way.

Paul sometimes it's best not to try to change things to fast. I think it's best to let others who have been around for awhile take the lead on issues like this. In a couple of years maybe. I kinda knew what the reaction would be when I saw your origial post. Give it time.

Chill Pill

so serious

Post by Chill Pill » Fri Aug 26, 2005 12:26 am

C'mon everyone, relax.

..... I was there and spoke with the slingy crew about taking it down a notch - in person, on site. Instead of pontification on a web site, I tried to do something about it....when Rueben was out on the water, I made a point of getting far from the beach and riding well beyond the markers....

My earlier comments were made in gest - I windsurfed long before I kited, and respect all watermen/women who like to play in the elements.....those who know what makes me tick, know that I don't have anything against anyone....I was simply trying a bit of sarcasm to liven up the conversation....it has been taken out of context.

Actions speak louder them words....words matter, but anyone can talk a big game. When is the last time you helped someone on/off the water? Helped a bro retrieve his board lately?? Do you help people launch land when it's busy? Do you help windsurfers who are in trouble in a big ebb?? or are you too busy w/your sesh?? Do you tell new people about the rules of the road when they get there on the weekend and you see a new face??? ......"if a man among you has no sin upon his hands, let him cast a stone at me...."

.....For what it's worth, my first delta days were at glass beach in 1988.

Good winds to all, Zeev.

PS - since my aloha appears to be rubbing people the wrong way, I'll stay out of all your way this weekend - at least at the delta.

Damn I wish I had the time to make it to the Delta Saturday so I can be friendly and helpful to everyone and enjoy the wind and water! Share the good times with your fellow kiters, have fun and be safe!

I have taken my medication and feel much better now. (The chill pill, as suggested by Zeev.) I have had a large cocktail and feel much better now. (The drink, as suggested by Dewey.) I have decided to be more friendly and feel much better now. (It's about fun, as suggested by Ollie.) I understand that we all work to keep the beach safe and feel much better now. (It's about promoting safety, as suggested by Gabe.) All in all, I feel much better now. (Especially since you ex-poleboarders really were here in the '80s!)

I admit I was heated, but it kinda' ticked me off to be told I'm hiding behind the "Guest" label.

But, again, I'm feeling much better now.

Wait... wasn't this thread about expanding the beach? Sorry, my evil twin has stolen my password! Again.

Sarcasm is a wonderful thing, but I have found recently that it doesn't translate well into print anymore.

Hey BDawg, I looked into the park rules a bit. Whether or not folks who live in the Delta consider themselves the "locals", the park is run by Sacramento County and the Board of Sups have the final say over anything that happens there. They take their advice from the five person Parks Committee, which is an appointed committee of Sacto County citizens. Seems like we should get one of you "local" kiters (or windsurfers) on that Committee. At the very least, they might listen to a handful of Sacto County kiteboarders asking them how it would be possible to make SI Park a better facility for the current users... They have the committee member's names right on the Sac. County Parks website, if you feel like contacting one of them.

It sure would be nice if there was a park on the Solano County side of the river (where I live) -- all those great beaches and no way to get to them without a boat :(
