Knyfe,

My sister did not visit yet. She is a musician and got unexpected gigs scheduled in Texas which she happily accepted (she gotta live from something). So - kiting for her is delayed. But we'll get there.

Actually I just heard the story about the court date which Jeff had earlier this week and will write that up...the whole story is getting much weirder.

Anyways - for the buddy system - People who had lessons and want to help each other should absolutely do that. If one understands more of kiting than another one that can barely be defined as teaching. It's also clearly more dangerous to have beginners try on their own instead of with a buddy.
Well - only my opinion but probably shared by all who understand kiting.

Should they get tickets or arrested then we all should collect for the ticket and their bail. And really - that would affect a lot of other people and sports (windsurfing, kayaking, daddy flying a kite with their kids)...come on. Let's stay real here.

Removing the buddy systems would be counterproductive for safety. And therefore counterproductive for the liability Boardsports and the Park is claiming is the reason for the restrictions.

Has anyone else noticed how few kiters were on the beach today in Alameda? Is it the light winds (today was stronger than most recent days) or something else?

Andy,

I was there yesterday (the first time this summer season as my family prefers other beaches now!) and YES I was surprised too that the beach was really empty kitewise. If I think back the low wind summer days the last years ?!?! Ok, wind was crap but still enough to throw my buddy into the water. And I tell you what, I didnt got arrested!

But please dont tell anybody ...

CU , K

Andy wind is ALWAYS much better at 3rd. Why dont you move over to the better side of the bay. And instructors dont get arrested there too !!!

Try it with the Slingshot Glide, the FlyDoor, a Surfboard, a skimboard, or just body dragging..... Otherwise, with our recent wind patterns, you are right....

I'll see you there for KOB...

3rd is nice for wind, but I hate oyster shells and rocks... (More so for marlys than me)

ALAMEDA IS THE BEST KITING LOCACTION IN THE BAY....when it is windy........which it was in May.....

Andy, my wife was out at 3rd only once and decided never to do it again. I also saw the guy flying himself against the rocks one month ago. That was really a hard day as it was even a low wind condition.

If there is wind Alameda is just the best. I still hope for the automn winds there. CU

the reason boardsports has been calling the police on KWS is rather simple, let me explain:

KWS has been spotted teaching within the Park's jurisdiction. By law only Alameda Boardsport's is permitted to teach there. Boardsports pays about 10% of they're (lesson?) revenues to ARPD [alameda recreation & parks department] in order to be able to teach kiting, etc., within the Park jurisdiction.......

so if Boardsports has to pay ARPD to teach, shouldn't KWS?

and if KWS really isnt commiting a crime then Alameda Boardsports is getting ripped off by ARPD

that, i believe is the problem here [not to mention some safety hazzards, but im sure KWS undrestands it all]

please correct me if im wrong
