Kirk and Vinnie, thanks for looking into this and representing...

Here's a reply (via email) I received from the Emeryville Councilwoman (Nora Davis):

"Kirk,

Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. Chief James will put out the word to his officers. Your idea of improving that area for better parking is a good one and should be addressed to either CALTRANS or Berkeley.

In the meantime, have fun on the bay.

Cordially,

Nora d"

It seems that that little strip of land is hard to pin down in terms of ownership. Emeryville? Berkeley? CalTRANS?

Assuming you're completely off the road and if they don't even know who owns it... do you think they'll actually ticket there? It would probably make appeal jurisdiction complicated for them

Has anyone been ticketed there before - I've always parked there w/o issue

According to Google Maps, Yahoo Maps and other maps I found online, the strip is definitely in Emeryville, not Berkeley, though just barely.

Thanks Vinnie for pointing this out. I wrote to the Emeryville Councilwoman (Nora Davis) articulating the point that the overflow/dirt parking area area at Pt. Emery is, in fact, inside the Emeryville city limits. At least according to Google maps...

Her response was kinda cool - she put the topic on the agenda for the Emeryville Public Works meeting on Thurs. 5/17/12, 9am, City Hall, 1333 Park Ave, Emeryville, (garden room).

I'll check to see if there is an opportunity for public comment during this meeting and if so, I think we could rally a few folks to attend and offer some support for making that little strip where we park an 'official' parking zone when the main Pt. Emery lot is full.

I'll keep you posted...

Kirk lemme know if I can help out here? I have worked with Mrs. Davis in the past and as an Emeryville business owner I may be able to help out here somewhat.

I heard back from Councilmember Davis and she says there will be an opportunity for public comment at the Emeryville Public Works meeting on Thurs. 5/17/12, 9am, City Hall, 1333 Park Ave, Emeryville, (garden room).

I plan to be there to encourage them to:
a. Identify and hopefully take ownership of the little strip of land we've been using for overflow parking at Pt. Emery. Originally they tried to say it was owned by Berkeley and/or Caltrans.

b. Consider making that area a legit parking zone (i.e. paving).

c. If "b" is not possible, at least get them to agree to work with Emeryville Police to clarify the parking situation as legal and stop intermittent ticketing and/or threats of such.

Any/all of you who would like to 'have my back' at this meeting would be greatly appreciated!

Bump.

The meeting to discuss parking at Pt. Emery with the Emeryville Public Works folks is this Thursday morning:

Thurs. 5/17/12, 9am, City Hall, 1333 Park Ave, Emeryville, (garden room).
