Why do say that? Because new kite schools sell somewhere between 600-1000 group and water lessons on Groupon, Yelp, and other social buying sites and teach near intermediate to advanced launches which is where all the kiters who learned to kite yesterday and can't go upwind will go anyway, like what happened two days ago and come within feet of the rocks and fly their kites on top of pedestrians on the Bay Trail?

But hey the groupon owner say this will lead to "more access to launch areas". He is a likable guy but I would consider his kiting skills average at best. I met and saw one of his students attempting to launch 3 times and it wasn't pretty. 600 more to come yikes!!! I think we should be all looking for new hobbies.

sometimes free enterprise is NOT so GOOD....

Why can't the schools GET TOGETHER and work out a PRICE STRUCTURE and TEACHING PLAN that EVERYONE CAN LIVE with????
Price wars will KILL KITING-

wait til you see us teach 40 women and girls this weekend! All for charity, non-for profit to benefit Girls Inc of Alameda. Max, I gotta beg for your support and your help so we can utilize the wider, safer Shellgate Launch area. With all the beach erosion (FEMA, are you there? we were promised sand replenishment 3 years ago after so much storm damage), our launch in front of the shack has decreased in size by 70%. The shellgate launch is so much wider. But it too will disappear with Al Gore's global warming predictions. We need sand replenishment so we can get kiters further out from the road...and get our man made beach back. I think it is supposed to happen this fall, finally.

Ino - regrettably i tell you this on a forum, but please forgive me for yelling at you in the launch area years ago. I was wrong to do so and I am sorry. I ask for your forgiveness from the bottom of my heart. We all share the same desire to get people stoked on an awesome sport. Let's try to get together this year and make amends :)

and LMG, I love ya man. You rock!

Oh, not wanting to rain on your parade, and I know that the wind forecast for this weekend is good, .., but, ..., I thought Memorial Day Weekend is a go-no go-black ball weekend for Alameda when there are too many beach goers sunbathing.

Rey, in the past we have agreed to not kite on 4th of July, memorial day and any other holiday the beaches are just too large of a percentage public to keep kiting safe.

BUT, we are not the owners or Crown beach, Boardsports is. So all we can do is assist, for free, any requests they might have. Please come to alameda beach this weekend and help support women in need. Bring a life guard shirt just in case you have the chance to rescue a hot kiteress in need. And bring some money to throw in the Boardsposrts tip jar as they are always there to help charities for non-profit and anyone else in need. I hear hotdogs are $10/each for men. But, for every hotdog you buy, they will let you move one child off the launch hassle free!

Limited time only, this sat. and sun. YOU can move a beach goer and their family with no hassles! Just show your boardsports authority tag to them and they will not ask any questions. They will move in fear of your great power like you have never experienced before.
