New kiting policiess in effect at Alameda's Crown Beach.

Post by BoardSportsSchools » Wed May 25, 2011 7:06 am

It has come to our attention that times are changing and we must also in order to keep our sport alive and healthy. Thus, these are the new rules in effect at Crown Memorial State Beach as of today 5/25/2011:

1. All kiters must be IKO certified to level 3 riding competency in order to launch in front of the Board Sports shack. Certification will be mandatory and includes a 1 hour lesson from Board Sports (100$). You must wear your IKO certification card visibly outside your wetsuit . We will be selling ID card holders that fit on your wrist or hang around your neck.

2. No Launching upwind or downwind of the shack. East Bay Region Parks District is very strict about this one and will quickly fine kiters launching in other locales.

3. A maximum of two kites and two boards can be set up at any given time on the beach and they must remain within 50 ft of each other at all time. All kites and kiteboards must be registered through Board Sports for your own safety and security from theft.

4. Kite brands not supported by board sports will not be launched or landed. This is for your own safety – we don’t want people launching/landing dangerous equipment they shouldn’t be riding.

5.No kites at 12 O’clock ! – We have removed this time from all clocks to ensure you never put your kite there.

Thank you all for your cooperation at the Alameda Board Sports Shack! We look forward to seeing you all at our first certification meeting this weekend at 1pm.

2 kite maximum....Ouch!

So, on entire Alameda beach, only 2 kites can be pumped up?

What about the " ratards " walking their kites up the beach?

Can kites be pumped and rigged in the grassy areas next to parking lot?

IKO 3 Certification is 1 hour long?

Sounds like Crandon park.
If anyone knows what kind of a vibe that place has.
I think flags on the kites or on people`s arms might also help them wouln`t it ?

Friends we had this coming. [-X I feel responsible for this bullcrap as much as anyone else that has been nonspoken. ](*,)

If the Level 3 Certification truly is a requirement, then how is it justified to charge everyone $100 for it? Does it come with insurance or something else? New regulations should not be designed to be a financial windfall for the group making them, they should be designed to improve safety.

If you are a better kiter than the teacher, I don't see much benefit in taking a "lesson".

They should offer an observation certification for like $20. If you can obviously kite well, then you are certified. If not, then you go for the $100 deal.

This can't be real. Notice how they signed it "BS" - "Bullshit" or is it "Boardsports" :)
