Not to jack up KGB, but
Is teaching at the small rock infested, power lines downwind ..
freeway right next to, just up wind of the emeryvill brid sanctuary..port of oakland owned beach
right next to the pay area of the bay bridge
a good idel or a newbe accident waiting to happen?

I would like the community to way in.

My $.02.... if the learners at Alameda can't keep from rolling their kites into families and fences, then how are learners NOT going to inevitably have an incident with whatever surroundings are around them elsewhere?

Becoming an IKO instructor is as easy as it is for a bad driver to get a drivers license.

when coming to a stop sign, what do you do?
a) continue driving
b) check for text messages.
c) come to a complete stop and look both directions.

Congratulations you are now able to operate a 4000lb knife, most likely on the opposite side of the road than the country you were born in.

sorry.

Pictures of the area? maybe google map location?

What other recommended places can a school teach safely as the only beginner friendly beach in the area has a local monopoly?

I've kited by the area in C-Dog's question/post-
It's a narrow beach with BIG RADIO TOWERS on it, if the student or instructor gets pushed down wind... OH- That will be a MESSY SITUATION... :?: Was a ski there for pick up??? :?:
So to ansure your question C-Dog I SAY NO :!: , bad option-
But what are the other options..? The Bay is lined with ROCKS and other HAZARDS- :(

Instructors need to able to INSTRUCT- So what do they do??? NOT INSTRUCT, that doesn't work either-

Perhaps a joint operation COMPROMISE can be reached with BOARDSPORTS-
Maybe PAY THEM A PERCENTAGE?? Work a deal for LAND BASED INSTRUCTION....
Perhaps ONLY JETSKI ELSE WHERE- THEN LAND FOLLOW UP'S AT ALAMEDA...

A PROPER BUSINESS DEAL could be a WIN-WIN-WIN for EVERYBODY!

Enjoy, L.M.G.

It has seemed to me for a long while that the only really safe option for beginners in the Coast/Bay/Delta region of Norcal is open water lessons conducted with a boat or PWC.

IMHO, Two or three water lessons are not enough to get someone proficient in all the skills and knowledge necessary to avoid accidents at small, crowded, obstacle-laden beaches. Yes, I know that's how all of us on BAK did it, but that needs to change. Beginners should be going out for several additional sessions with PWC support until the instructor decides that person is ready to launch from solid ground. Kites should only sold to kiters who have gotten a certification card. If IKO doesn't start pushing for this, the Coast Guard should.

Go ahead and scream about FREEDOM, blablabla. No one has the legal right to take out a small child with a deadly inflatable weapon attached to them.
