I have the Sony out for service. The cost of repairs and shipping will be close to $400. I hope to have the camera back in service by the end of April.

My fiancee forecasts weather for SFO tower. She just emailed me asking if I knew the 3rd ave web cam was down, and I told her yes, and it is being replaced. Her response:

Yea, I hope it's back because we use it a LOT for stratus forecasting. I hope that guy knows that! ;) That web cam is useful for us to monitor stratus burn off along the final approach for SFO. It's seriously one of my go to tools to let traffic managers know that I think the fog will be cleared in the next X amount of minutes from the bridge as its as the tail end of burn off and we're just about to open the flood gates at SFO letting all the airplanes in.

Thought you'd like to know! Bet you never would have expected that your little webcam was helping out the National Weather Service. =D>

This doesn't surprise me one BIT - I have ALWAYS been suspicious that the government was watching me on my the webcam that i've setup in my bedroom.
