Re: ALAMEDA NEWBIES
Most beginners are open to suggestions and simply dont know who to listen too or what is correct info, there is allot of info to absorb when starting out!. And i think thats where this forum can be really productive. Well done Yuri got em and have been very proactively handing them out. You wouldn't be surprised at how many Alameda and other seasoned bay area kiters have no idea about this great forum and all it has to offer!windhorny wrote:
Last year I made some business cards for the local shops to carry that hopefully get handed out to the new riders so they can look on here and learn. So hopefully "WE" can educate the seemingly never ending flow of new blood from the schools before it is too late for all of us.
WELL DONE MATE!
As our beloved sport is now growing at an alarming rate and local spots are being kited to capacity, I would like to suggest a new 2010 kiter/business community/east bay parks dept panel/mtg to discuss the issues now at hand (overcrowding, unschooled kiter access etc) so as to preempt and avoid any tragedies and limits on access!
Max who do you know?

We walk on two legs,
not on four-
Walk on four, you break the law!
Who wrote the rules?
WHO WROTE THE RULES!!
What happens when we break the law-
What happens when they just dont care......
You know where we go from HERE...
STRAIGHT TO THE HOUSE OF PAIN!

I was looking for a new board this morning on craigslist and found this. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/spo/1723572180.html I will personally make sure this Alameda Newbie will get all the necessary training. Anyone have training kite I can borrow?

Re: ALAMEDA NEWBIES
I kite at Alameda probably once a week, tops, never weekends. I launch from up and below, depending on crowds and showering needs. I've never seen anyone arrive kite in hand on beach. While I understand self rescue practice needs, I really don't see this as something safe people should be doing as a rule, maybe even the opposite? Maybe this action item from the 2005 is no longer a best-practice?

Re: ALAMEDA NEWBIES
a continues streem of kiters
walking there kites over beach goers heads ..
as they go back up wind
and they made complates to the park..
we didnt make this stuff up..
the kite in hand was to pervent new kiters coming to shore, out of control
takeing out sunbathers
and asking beach goers to help them land there kites
fyi most of these skills will only help at all other locations
dragging out,
selfrescue, ie: land kite in water come ashore with it in your hand
but if you got a better idel
lets hear it.

Seriously- the "guidelines" were written to HELP EVERYONE, not HINDER anyone!!
I know it's not easy learning to kite, but learn you MUST!!
The way to learn is to first get "guidance", then practice, practice, practice....
When you begin to "practice" it's good to remain receptive to "suggestions" from your brothers and sisters...
]When launching and landing, Always remember: SAFETY ZONE, SAFETY ZONE!
A proper safety zone is 1.5 times your line length- sideways
AND 2 times your line length- DOWN WIND
Anything that is within your SAFETY ZONE- YOU OWN!! (dont F$%^& it up!)
We're all in this together-
