Where is the Wind today?

Post by Mork » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:39 pm

Like most my feet are getting VERY itchy with the season looming. I thought I would post to call in some advice to maximize time on the water and reduce missed opportunity. My method has been to have the stuff in the car as much as possible come March, keep in touch with BAK forum, check ikitesurf through the day and then webcams for first kite up. Yes this works OK but the drive lag or wrong call is rubbish but certainly part of the game for sure.

Thoughts:
** Full ikitesurf membership - stop being so bloody cheap, get access real time and forecasts. How are the forecasts?
** WindAlert iPhone app
** Add a held post on BAK for when and where is blowing (unless there is a spot burn philosophy and you need to earn your wings!) - thanks to Adam T for the Thurs post, highly jealous. It would be great to post "it may be blowing at XX tomorrow stay tuned" for example.
** Educate more on forecasting and other web resources - many on the BAK forecast section, any particular to note
** Any thoughts on a replacement for Jeff's forecast?

What are the various approaches out there, any gems to share?

I know much of this probably just comes with veteran status and maybe that is the route all must take but any tips for an impatient kiter would be great.

Packed isobars are your friend...

Another resource is www.windonthewater.com, though mostly tailored to the Gorge.

I got a great unexpected ssesion in yesterday when i got a text from Boardsports TWEET. THANKS Boardsports.
I think a good kiter community Twitter for wind conditions would be awsome. Boardsports covers Crown and Coyote, as a group we could cover the other sopts - just a thought.
WIND the only thing worth twweting about.

I totally agree. Using mobile social networking to report real time where people r headed, conditions at local spots, etc.
