Hello kitejudy,

Welcome to the bay area..if you are learning to stay on your board? I would stay away from the Delta...if you get a 4/3 wetsuit you should be warm enough to enjoy "Alameda" and it is a much safer place to hone your skills. "Big Sandy Beach"

Elli is right.. you will have to get use to a "Wetsuit" anywhere in the bay area, if you do a search online, you can get a good idea what is out there? after that you should go to a kiteboarding store to try on a few before you "Buy" one, as it will have to fit "Right" from top to bottom.

If you kite in Alameda.. there is a shack right on the beach here where you can rent a used wetsuit to see what they feel like..again welcome and good winds to you.

Max be with you

Wow, Sherman Island is not what I expected AT ALL. Beach? What beach?

Yuri and Tianna advised me against trying to go out, especially since I didn't have a wetsuit. I was all pumped up to kite, so I felt a little deflated. But at least I got to see a good show with all those pro kiters doing tricks right in front of the "beach", and then meet some of you at the party.

You guys are definitely right that it's not warm by Florida standards! I'm going wetsuit shopping now and next weekend I'll be back to take the boat trip up the river. Thanks for the help and hope to meet you all soon.

Well in our area a beach is more or less where you can walk into the water, even though sometimes you walk down concrete stairs. There are also big sharks by the way :)
