They told me their new harnesses don't have this type of design... They had me send my first harness to them, but this time they just wanted proof that I had destroyed this one. I am pretty sure they know that this is an issue and don't need to inspect any more failed harnesses..
I just got an email saying they will "order me a new one".. everything so far with them has been very smooth.. Dealing with DaKine has been very reasonable. I like them and other than this harness issue I like all of their stuff.. They get my vote of Great Company!!

Hello AdamT,
They are just like there name "Dakine"..the reason for this go's back to the early 80's when they spent alot of money giving away new products to almost everyone that asked, there rep "Laurent Vignaud" was a big part of there success, he would be at your shop within 24hr's if you had a issue with anything with the name "Dakine" on it.

HA! nice Max.
So MAx pointed out the potential rust spot starting on my pyro today. Just curious Adam, did you rinse yours with fresh water regularly? i do everyday. Wonder if that actually helps?

Nope, the only time I rinsed with "fresh" water was at Sherman...
Heck, I barley rinse myself with fresh water on a regular basis, let alone my gear... #-o
I am now about 85.675% convinced now that I have looked at my harness again that it was the constant rubbing of the inner rivets and nylon strap due to the spreader bar strap that weakened the part that broke. I can see it starting to happen on the other side....

Re: Dakine Pyro Harness Design Flaw
Hello AdamT,
Salt water is corrosive to all metals, particularly steel. alot of manufacturers have switched out there metal parts, for plastic parts??although this will work for some kite parts plastic rivets on a harness?? I don't think they would be strong enough.
I think the answer is a brass rivet? as it is not corrosive to salt water..I think Yuri would know where to get them, if they even exist? for the application with nylon strapping or webbing... I did see rust on Yuri's harness? it looked to me like the rust had been there for some time??

The solution is to not use rivets...

Re: Dakine Pyro Harness Design Flaw
What the hell, you gotta buy a safety knife seperately?! that is just stupid. Every harness should come with that! Mine didnt so I made a dive knife attach but most wont if it doesnt already have it.
Why cant they just have the main strap go the whole way around the back of the harness? that way the stitching is just holding it from sliding, not actually taking all the load? Those power buckles they use suck getting in and out of. I love the pyro's clasps they had. Common Dakine.
