Board width

Postby RobsterCraw » Thu Apr 21, 2005 2:29 pm

What does every one think about wider boards? I ended up with a North Jaime Pro in a large size, and I'm not a large dude. Could this be a hinderance. My buddy needs a board and he's bigger than me so I was thinking if the width of the board is a possible problem for getting a good toe carve then I could replace my board and sell him mine. My background is in wakeboarding so I'm still looking to stay with that kind of ride. Any thoughts?

The upside of board width is better planning in marginal conditions, which is really good if you are a big person (over 190 lbs). This helps when you are coming out of transtions when your kite position is less then ideal.

The downside of wider boards is when it gets powered up and when it gets choppy, things get a bit hectic. Toe side moves take a bit more energy.

In addition to width, rocker shape, rail shape all make a difference.

Good winds + waves, Zeev.
