Crissy Kiter Dies in Motocycle Accident

Post by ehud » Mon Jul 21, 2008 7:38 pm

As you may have heard, Ryan Jones, one of our Crissy Field boys, was in a motorcycle accident on the weekend and passed away. Many of you knew him as the guy who used to show up at Crissy on a bicycle and kite with Royal Kite. He was a good guy and a friend to us all at the beach.

His roomates are organziing a Memorial Service at Crissy Field.

Whether you kite in Alameda, 3rd Avenue, Sherman or Crissy, let's come together to remember our fellow kiter.

Keep an eye out for the date and time.

I've never seen anyone else kiting at Crissy who was as stoked as Ryan, he always, always had a smile on his face and his session was always great, regardless of the conditions.

I wish we all had an attitude as positive as Ryan's. We'll miss you out there and we'll do our best to enjoy every session as much as you would have.

A man suspected of drunken driving unsafely changed lanes on the Bay Bridge when his car swiped the rear of a motorcycle, leading to the death of its rider, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Ryan Willis Jones, 30, of San Francisco was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital at 5:51 a.m. Saturday, less than an hour after the accident. Daniel Francisco Olivera, 31, of Oakland, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was booked into San Francisco County Jail.

Authorities say that Olivera was driving his 1998 Saab at an "unsafe" speed when he changed lanes and collided with Jones, who was riding a 2004 Harley-Davidson, the CHP said in a statement. Olivera suffered minor injuries.

The accident, which took place just after 5 a.m. a little west of Treasure Island, shut down two eastbound lanes for nearly two hours, according to CHP Officer A. Paulson.

Yes, exactly. Ryan was always stoked, and always smiling - he was one of the friendliest and most upbeat guys I've ever met. What a shame. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

This is sad news :( I only knew Ryan from brief conversations at the beach (we both ride the same kite), but he was always friendly and willing to help.

My sincere condolences to Ryan's family and friends as well.

I did not know Ryan personally, but seeing the pics really puts a face and person to the name - and the tragedy of one of ours sinks in.

Thanks to everyone for the support. So cool to see everyone coming together at this sad time.

There is probably going to be a memorial kite session.

from another thread but heres another picture of Ryan enjoying one of the things he loved most. Very tragic loss and my condolences to his family and friends.

Ryan Jones, the kiteboarder in the white kite below, was killed in a car accident on the Bay Bridge last weekend. There will be a memorial service for Ryan Sunday Jul/27/2008 at 1pm at the Presidio Officers Club. As part of the ceremony Ryan's ashes will be spread in the Bay off Crissy Field where the picture was taken and Ryan loved to surf.

Ryan's family and friends would appreciate it, if Ryan's fellow kiteboarder would join the services and sail out into the bay with him for the very last time next Sunday.

Ryan was a truly exceptional person. If you would like to share stories about him, please do go http://inmemoryofryanjones.blogspot.com/.

Terrible terrible news. He was always so cheerful on the beach and even when riding on the Bay. Condolences to family & friends.
