For me: its like the inner game of tennis, FIRST- we must see ourselves making it then we go do it.Posted: Tue Jul 08, 2008 1:29 pm Post subject: (No subject)
Maybe one day I will take the fins off and try it just to see what it feels like. I can just see hurting myself.
With a ramp the first concern is not crashing into the ramp itself.
To do this requires some practice, start with doing lots of hooking and un hooking as you break down wind slightly. Ride like that a bit each time...
Next, start jumping some chop but do it a little different. Once again ride fast- break down wind/unhook, pop with your leggs/ NO KITE!
These simple practice runs will prepare you for the first ramp hits. As you have practiced, get speed (not lots/not to little), break down wind to the ramp keeping the kite at or below 45 degrees. As you hit the ramp stand straight over your board (front to back/side to side), absorb the impact with your knees, load and pop straight up (kite at 45 degrees). This set up will get you maybe a few feet over the ramp (7-10'), with good forward speed and sending the kite further forward for landing you can expect a solid but not over whelming impact on landing. Use your knees, but dont be weak about it.
This is not just a kids game, it requires practice and conditioning. Confindence is also key, get confident by preparing yourself. Get a solid board with good padz and snug foot strapes, start riding that baby FINLESS...
Then just do it,
L.M.G.
As far as Brians comment about not hurting yourself, please dont, we dont want to see people carted away. Then again, if you do hurt yourself, man-up and move on, dont ALLOW lawyers to take away the toys. Taking personal risks is taking person responcibility for your actions. Get INSURANCE, get a helmit, get an impact vest (something) and get prepared to have fun!!
Just dont forget, we're all in the same boat...
