I have windsurfed at Palo Alto, sometimes when 3rd is blowing south, it will blow WNW. There is no place to launch and they do not allow kiting due to the airport.MehYam wrote:What about the bay down that far? Has anyone tried kiting anywhere in the bay south of 92, or 84 for that matter? Maybe the wind's too westerly.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for taking that initial step; one small step for Dave maybe followed-up by one giant leap for the kiting community. I like that part about making a donation... :). As far as the legality of kiting there goes, let me point out the following axioms
- flying a kite is not illegal
- going in to a lake is not illegal
and borrowing principles from mathematical induction putting the two together makes it legal. Now how can you argue with that kind of logic? Where do is sign up to take that bar exam???
Has anyone considered that body of water just west of 101 near Candle Stick in Brisbane?
Here-ish <==
I call it out cause it would seem like this spot may have flatter water conditions although a slight wind shadow.

To put some input in this discussion, I was the Sailing instructor there for 3 years for the junior sailing camp during the summer. every since ive been there no planes have flown close enought to the lake to pose any problem. ive always wanted to try and kite there. maybe one day ill head over there and talk to my old boss and see if i can give it a shot. i know one time the owner tried to kite once but failed, due to her trying to launch on the upwind shore where the wind shadows are from the trees. ill keep you all posted if i head up there.

actually today I found another lake we might use for shitty kiting. Lak Lagunita on the stanford campus. Was there today with the kids for playing and I think just for the show it would be worth to try on a windy day like this. Lost of room on the other side and warm but stinky water. Gusty as hell but the sign explicitly allows water sports on won risk, They dont name kite surfing but wind surfing. I think a small kite to eat the gusts and a big board to glide through the lull should bring it.
Wind from 2 - 20 knots....
a "bit" dry in the pic but some water right now
