Yes, if you cant figure out how to get upwind in a month you are permanently terminated from the sport.

I agree - sell the Nitro for whatever you can get (ie a twelve pack, gallon of gas, or a hot dog). I'm an ex-Nitro rider. You'd have a smoother ride by hooking your lines to a blue marlin!

There's an '06 12M Cabrinha Crossbow that was posted in the ikitesurf classifieds today for $350. For $80, you can have a much safer kite, and a much more pleasurable learning experience.

I feel badly that you found the blacktip before BAK.

For the sake of any newbies reading this thread, I have to respectfully disagree - there are plenty of counter-examples proving this point wrong.

These allows you have more time in the water riding rather than getting OPed and relaunching. I've seen so many kiters that learn on bows, and after the end of season, they are already riding and maybe staying upwind. I can't say the same for folks on Cs.

I learnt on a nitro 05 and I was jumping and doing backrolls by the end of the season (and it was a short season in Vancouver).. oh.. and I'm 30.. (though I must admit, very stubborn and persistant when it comes to sports :) )

having said that, I defenitely wouldn't recommend a nitro to a beginner.. since then I've switched to 07 boxers and I'm a lot happier.. I feel a lot safer.. I had some very bad falls on my nitro.. that thing doesn't depower and when you put it in the wrong side of the window (which you do all the time as a beginner) you are in for some punishment..

My wife started last year and she went straight to the 07 boxer and she had a way better time learning than I did.. and a lot safer..

the only thing I miss about the nitro is how high it could jump

thanks for all the input guys I love it, and I have moderate boardskills already where I am shaky is the kite and how far to stay away from others (stuff I will learn in lessons) the first time I was able to get up on waterski's I skied for over an hour the driver finally got tired of pulling me and did somthing crazy to get me to lose it. the fact is I know I will face challenges with this kite but I love challenges!

I would still be pissed at the guy that sold you that kite. It's not a beginners kite, and it's very old. My guess is it will only last 2 sessions. The 04 Cabrina's were not very good kites. Have you pumped it up yet? If I remember correctly the leading edge was not very good.

If you are that low on funds I may have a kite or two to give you (I have to check the shed and see if I still have them). I haven't pumped them up in a couple of years, but last I checked they were still good.
