If you are looking at the Delta with warm water as an added bonus I would highly recommend Nat with Edge Kiteboarding and Donny and Sandy with Kitopia. At Alameda Jeff can set you up at KWS...best of luck to you...

A lot of times first water lesson goes bad for one or another reason, and many times it has little to do with an instructor. Not enough practicing with a trainer, simply not enough skills flying a big kite, too small or too big kite for conditions, etc, etc. When a student says that the lesson didn't teach him/her much, the instructor can:

1) give a complementary lesson, free of charge

2) recommend to take additional lessons from him
I have done a little research and it seems kite415 run by Ovi is slightly cheaper than other schools, but I cant find to much information about them.
That means that the cost matters to you, and it's important what you get for the money. In that case try to make the research which schools have given free complementary lessons to students (and how often).

Some schools will recommend you to keep taking lesson after lesson from them (and on top of that will try to sell $1800 kites with a $200 discount). Others do care about their reputation and would do everything to keep it.

Good luck.

My wife an I have recently moved to the bay area and I am looking for a good school so she can start kiting with me. I have done a little research and it seems kite415 run by Ovi is slightly cheaper than other schools, but I cant find to much information about them. Is Ovi a good instructor that I can trust my wife with? Does he have a good reputation in the bay area? The price difference is very small and safety is obviously the biggest issue here.

Thanks, I appreciate your input!

The reason why you can`t find much informations about Kite415 is that the school is 2 weeks old.
There are definitely mixed reviews about Ovi `s lessons not to say the least...
If safety is the biggest issue I would also make sure that Kite415 is covered with the proper insurance and permits necessary to operate in the Bay.

Nat Lincoln at Edge Kiteboarding taught me how to kite and I couldn't have asked for a better instructor/expereince. He is patient and thorough especially when it comes to safety. He also teaches at Sherman Island which has more consistent wind and flatter water than the bay, and has a boat and radio right behind you the entire time. If you'd like a female instuctor Sandy is also based at Sherman - I think most would agree that the conditions there are the best for learning.
