Tips for Sherman Car Camping

Post by Burgerb » Tue May 22, 2007 3:30 pm

Hello,

I've been to Sherman about two years ago. This time I would like to stay the weekend and do some car camping.

Do you have any advice in this regard? For example: I heard that the allnight wind might force you into the car since the tent is constantly moving - did you had that experience?

Is Rio Vista the closest supermarket in case you run out of Ice or other important items ?

Are there showers you can use? Would you recommend staying at the Brennan Island camp ground instead and drive each morning?

If you have any other ideas or advice you want to share that would be great.

Thanks for any help,

- Holger

Tent camping is not allowed at the County Park, nor are there any showers there. If you want a little more civilized experience Brannan Island would work. Closest groceries may actually be Raley's in Oakley (but it's pretty much a wash versus going to Rio.)

There are no remaining flight times available this weekend though, I just checked with Air Traffic Controllers on-site. (Book early for greater safety!) Really early.

Hi and thank you! We actually planned on driving from San Francisco next weekend - so I hope it won't be to crowded then (compared to memorial day weekend). From where do you fly in - sounds fancy!

Thanks for the camping advice - I will try to reserve a spot at the camping ground.

Haha, back in the old days...you could.

Just keep an eye on the tides and don't pitch a tent in any low spots.

Learned that lesson the hard way late at night...

Oh, by the way...Is it shorty weather yet?

Well - I was half way serious... there is this airport at Rio Vista - there might be people flying in from there..... :?
