Looks like another good day at Sherman

Windtalker 3pm 15 to 25 with avg 20 from WNW
Weather.com is reading 19

As far as a local forecaster / meteoroligist, think about it, everything can be done remotely. All the weather forecasting I do is via computer so in reality I could do it from anywhere... I don't think that's the issue, local or remote.. in the end it's all just a guess / crap shoot.

I would love to hear how it was...

Well, yeah, the weather pattern is definitely changing. The last day of a three-day Valley cool down at Sherman is going to be stronger and gustier than the first and second day. When it's 70 degrees and blowing 20 mph at my house (30 miles north of the Delta), like it was today, it's a different kind of wind at Sherman than when it's 95 degrees and windless here, like it was Friday and Saturday.

I wasn't there, but I bet Sherman was wild and wooly today (and lots of fun). Compare the spiky Ikite graph from today with the flat ones Sat and Sun. Colder, too.

There's front coming in now, and the thermal wind is gone for a while. According to the long-term forecast, it may not come back until May, but we may get a couple of residual days at the end of this week before the real storm track moves into Norcal. In the meantime, there'll be plenty of storm kiting in the Bay and clearing winds on the coast.

weatherunderground was right about this Sunday at Alameda. But I've been skunked following that site in the past.

It's realtime so no predictions. We'll see how it works out.

I truly wish I was better at remembering names b/c someone at the Alameda beach cleanup this weekend said he gets the best weather predictions from Yahoo. (Bob? Kevin? I am horrible and very sorry) said it updates every 30 mins and is more accurate than noaa.

Rich, compare that graph to the weekend ones. Really gusty and too far to the SW, which shadows the launch.

Sherman is not the best place to ride pre-, post- or during frontal winds.

The coast (OB north) is going off right now, hopefully still hitting tomorrow. Maybe Alameda tomorrow, too. Unless it goes offshore too quick.

Thanks for all your info.

As I have been a windsurfer sailing at Rio for the past 20 years, I know how to deal with / read North & SW winds, kiteing is new to me and I can certainly learn from you and your kite expertice.

Over the years I have been one of the few that always enjoy North winds at Rio, but we have always launched at Windy Cove or "The Jungle"
Windsurfing I can deal with huge North wind gusts but I know right now I would not want to go out on a kite in winds that gust from 15mph to 30 mph as is normal for gusty North Wind days to be. The other thing is, in the past, windsurfing, I would wait till it was really blowing ( 25 to 45 ) to hit Rio.. and I now know that I am not ready for a day like that with a kite.
