Alameda Beach Clean up March 18 10 AM

Post by andre » Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:27 am

I wanted to repost this, since the last one the subject line of the posts were deleted and the actual date of the event was hard to figure out.

So, I'll be bringing bags, gloves, and some grabby sticks (save the back for kiting) around 10 by the shack, courtesy of San Francisco chapter of Surfrider. I believe someone else was on waiver duty, and pickin up the bags.

As far as I know, LMG was to notify the park and get any required waivers, so my assumption is he'll have those in hand, or the go ahead from the park that everything is cool without them...

working on it, should be a go!
BTW: they are redoing the sand with tractors right now, Sunday should be a day off for the drivers anyway...

Hi All,

Beach Clean-up is still happening, this Sunday March 18th, 10AM at the Shack. The beach is pretty trashy, especially downwind . Would love to see ya'll--come help protect the beach and water :).

LMG was nice enough to get the OK from the parks (thank you!)--some notes if you plan to come help out:
--No sandals, please wear closed-toed shoes
--Trash grabbers and bags will be provided
--Bring your own gloves (or it looks like Andre might be supplying)
--Please sign waivers at the Shack when you arrive

Hope you can make it!

Cool! See you there. Is Yuri still on the forum? I talked to him the other day and he said something about doing a bungee boarding thing, too! If there's no wind this would be a cool way to "wrap it up." See you Sunday.

Cleaning is a great thing for a beach. But is there anything being done about making it safer? Like taking some of the water hazzards out? I heard that there are some old piping and such out there. Clearing that would make not only kiting safer, but swimming and windsurfing.

I already removed some pvc pipes, but was unable to remove the 15 or so 4" diameter
wooden posts w/ sharp points on them, some sticking up more than 14",
(a good cure for vampireism).
A saw, or sledge hammer might do the trick.
The low tide on Sun will be close to sunset, but there are quite a few hazards in close now,

as a result of graders skimming off sand for beach replenishment.
Drag racing in shallow water @ lower tides could be very dangerous this season!,
check out the BIG piece of steel sticking out 4 bushes north of Shack!!! , perhaps someone with a four wheel
drive and big tires could use a chain, and pull some of these hazards free so they could be carted out!

Man, they have a D9 dozer right there on the beach! Greg can you talk to them again and see if they can grab it with the back "Ripper tooth"? It would take two seconds! If not..... I've got the keys. I know that ground would support it. Yeah I know... I wont touch their toys.

Shuttles available upwind from Pittsburg and Sherman all summer. Come see what kiting west has to offer.
