The Sacramento Crew is ready to ride... let us know...

Post by Proparoo » Thu Mar 15, 2007 3:04 pm

We got a pretty good crew up here in Sacramento (you know, that place East of the bay) and we are all chomping at the bit, ready to ride.

Knowing that it starts blowing in the Bay before Rio (our Summer turf) and Folsom is just about done for the year, I hope some generous kiters in the Bay area will put me on your call tree so we can get a heads up to some good early season wind. If you would like to help us out, just send me a private message with your phone number and I will give you a call or you can call me @ 916-296-5778

Thanks

Your best bet may be to watch this site. Most of the working force guys and gals like myself are usually multitasking between work and watching the Cams and iKitesurf wind readings. We typically post when it is on in the bay. Also Charlie typically posts a weather report for a heads up of the next week or days winds.

Typically this time of season Alameda can go off but your better bet is the coast like Waddel and Ocean Beach or Crissy Field (Not one of my favorite launches though) . All a pretty long drive for you but worth it if there is wind. Who knows. With this early season warming Sherman may be back on sooner then later.

Two years ago, Sherman started to blow at the end of March during the first heatwave in the valley. 2007 is starting to look like a real similar spring, so Pipe is right, we may be getting an early season.

Rich, does Folsom not blow in the spring when the North wind is nuking? Or does the N wind this time of year not make it over to the east side of the valley? Here on the west side, it's not unusual for us to have 20-30 MPH north wind 3 days a week this time of year. Some years it feels like 7 days a week.

Paul, I guess your right regarding the North Winds but since I have only been a kiter for 1 year, in the past I would only go to Rio on a North (in the Spring) to windsurf and I guess I would always choose Rio over Folsom.

I guess I really just want to hit Alameda, 3rd or Crissy. Wadell would be great though I would only want really small waves my first time.

So keep me on your phone tree and give me a call next time it's blowing. I can't wait till May and learning to jump over all the tree stumps floating down the river...

DISCUSSION...THE BIG STORY THROUGH THIS MORNING IS A SOUTHERLY
SURGE CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE. THE MORNING SATELLITE SHOWS AMPLE LOW
CLOUDS MOVING SOUTH TO NORTH ALONG THE BIG SUR COAST AT APPROX 15
KTS. THIS WILL CAUSE A WIND SHIFT OVER THE SOUTHERN INNER COASTAL
WATERS WITH VISIBILITIES LESS THAN A MILE AT TIMES OVER THE WATER
AND IMMEDIATE COAST. S-N GRADIENTS IN THE REGION ARE RATHER WEAK AND
ARE ABOUT 1MB OR NEUTRAL.

WOW... looks like i missed it. We went to Sierra for the weekend... it's just about over for the ski season, turned to major slush by 1:30 but it was pretty fun.

Here is the link to Sherman Saturday.. http://www.iwindsurf.com/windAndWhere.i ... ast+7+Days

Looks like a great day, I will keep my eyes and ears open for wind this next week... Guess it's that time of the year... Can't wait..

WOW you got 2 days !!! When I wrote my last reply I did not know it was blowing on Sunday too.

Great for you and all who made it.

Question, did they call for wind? I will start watching the forecasts as of today....

Hope to see you all soon...

Well the pros got on board the forecast by Saturday night, after it had already been blowing steady at Sherman for 24 hours.

until ikitesurf gets meteorologists working our area, i don't really trust the forecasts. we've got a good pattern going right now, so if the weather doesn't change, it should keep blowing.
