I know of several of the fancy-schmanzy Italiano models that croaked in a large puff of smoke. Mine even sent a few sparks flying at one point. Granted, the technician was not certified...

(That corner of my garage still smells like burned rubber.)

couldn't you just charge up a small tank of compressed air?

the other option is just to get one of those cheap air mattress pumps. you'll still need your hand pump toward the end, but it's pretty simple and cheap.

I use one of the cheap Coleman pumps for the rough filling with the hand pump at the end - it helps a lot, especially with my 17m contra which holds quite a lot of air. I used one first at Phillip Money's place in SPI and his seems to have held up with heavy use for quite some time.

Ya know I was looking at the ones they use for four wheel driving. They can pump up truck tires and you can regulate the pressure cut off. They were pretty expensive and you had to hook em up to your car battery. I could use it at Alameda parking lot but for Sherman and 3rd it wouldn't be practical. They are real small and compact though. What kind was Ardee's? That looked like it worked perfect.

I would suggest the one Ardee has. We both had the Naish/NSI one and it broke on both of us. I plan on getting the one he has for this season for my 25M Naish. Not even fun to pump that bad boy!
