Great story! That's exactly how my session on Sunday should have ended up, only I was just luckier. Actually, that's how it surely would have ended up, if I had stayed out there as long as you did.
Keep those stories coming. Pretty soon everyone will be too scared to ride out there. While I was riding Sunday, I was the only one out. I've got to say that it was pretty sweet to have Waddell all to myself -- a luxury on a normal day there.. almost a necessity in the conditions on Sunday.
And as for respect, yeah that's right there at the forefront of my mind every time I stare at a big macker coming at me head-on.
I can hardly wait for the opportunity to host that respect again :mrgreen:

Thats what I thought at the moment.. stoked my huevos enough to spur a little action, but I shot my wad in about 2 seconds..
Funny how much safer I feel with a kite overhead, maybe its the knowledge that I can run from trouble, or the speed to get in before getting pitched. Matching power to power..
All I know is seeing those patchs of reef scratching the surface, moving so slowly and getting dragged around and back off the reef as my arms go limp from exustion. Being down on my belly, taking every wave on the head. I paddled for hours almost non-stop and only caught 3 maybe 4 waves...
I was weak and the sea very humbling.

That is SO ridiculous. A bunch of us were waiting for something to look somewhat decent on Sunday @ Waddell, after Eric went out, it just looked too crazy and gusty. Your story is NUTS Zeev and I can only imagine what you went through... I think I'll wait for a smaller day at Waddell and Sherman Island weekends!

The reason I told my little story was to reinforce what Zeev said, things change!
In my case the winds were to light and the surf to big to risk kiting, besides I wanted to do some paddle. Seeing the place up close and personal was extra scary, experancing paddle surfing into bigger waves again was very humbling (especally on a 6.6, after years of being powered into waves).
What I learned was good conditioning and practice is key to success. I wont be making that mistake again for a while..
