I am in need of a new wetsuit (4/3) this year and I am wondering what people think of the Mystic kite specific suits vs Rip Curl/Oneill as far as durability and features. Thanks, Wade

Hello Wade, I haven't tried the Mystic specific suits, but I really like my Oneill Psycho II suit, I have the 3/2 and really like it. It is VERRRY stretchy and has thinner material in the armpit areas to help with mobility.

I just got the Psycho as well and it's super comfortable and super warm. I can't believe I kited all winter without it.

As you can see I rep Mystic, so I may be biased. For the record, I'm a true Nor Californian, so I've alsways been dedicated to using O'neill. I eventually switched to a Rip Curl that fit me better, but I realy got the best fit, that I've found, from the Mystic Virus. I did get the Virus suit before I started repin' for Mystic, so maybe I'm only slightly biased. :roll:

I hope by now you got the theme here... it's all about fit! If you do look at Mystic, try a Virus. Or if you want a kite specfic wetsuit, check out the new Crossfire wetsuit from Mystic... also look for the '06 version called the Mystic suit. The bottom line it to try as many wetsuit brands as you can and get the best fitting model! :)

I should also address your question on the durability... the Mystic suits use fabrics and constructions that rival O'neill and RC. If your looking for top-shelf, Mystic has the goods! The only unique feature that O'neil has is a fully internal and external taped construction, where as Mystic has an internally taped construction only.

The Crossfire (kite specific model) is quite nice... waist harness grip ribs, ankle straps, full windproof neoprene and heat reflecting panels. This is a unique wetsuit and is the only one specifically taylored to kiteboarding.

Question for the Mystic rep. I'm looking to buy the warror waist harness. I noticed the size chart has large to 36" and XL 36" and up. I have a 36" waist, and not chubby. What size should I get? Oh yeah, My DaKine waist harness is a large.

Call Evan at Live2kite a call. If there is some question of what size may fit better you could go to his place and try them on.

To Teabagger - If you are waist size 36" then you are size XL on the Warrior harness. We have all colors in stock on the XL (www.live2kite.com).

Regarding the wetsuit question, there is only one company that makes kiteboarding specific wetsuits, which include the required articulation for the upper body, shinbone protectors for the board that hits you during tricks and landings, extra friction on the back of the suit for the harness not to ride up, seems made in a way that they don't restrict movenent, for a 100% flexible package.
Mystic has so much design and innovation that people don't usually realize. It's not just about Ruben and few other top riders being on Mystic that makes this brand top of the line.
For example, they use metalite material (the titanium looking inner liner) in various parts of the suit due to its warmth characteristic and light weight. So in areas that there are vains or arteries they use metalite to make sure that these areas are well protected (wrists, neck, etc etc).
In addition, the chest panels are cut and made in a way that they protect the rib cage which protects the lungs for reducing even further the chance of hypothermia.... I could keep on going on the features etc but I guess the best thing to do is swing by our warehouse and try one on. You won't get on any other suit ever again.

I just got a psycho 4/3, have been very happy with it for surfing, the taped seams are pretty nice too. I'm not sure if i believe the hype about the extra mystic features specific for kiting (although, if the anti-harness-ride-up works, that would be pretty cool), but I'd probably get a mystic if i had to do it again purely for the flame design.
