Financial District is nuking!

Post by More Waves Please » Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:56 am

Strong Northerlies ripping between TI and the Financial District right now. Perfect sideshore in the City. I've been daydreaming about the glassy water potential behind a couple of the piers that I can see out of my office window for a while. It actually seems possible today. Can someone come launch me at the Ferry Terminal?

Don't forget your drysuit and ski goggles. THe wind chill is below freezing here, even though the thermo reads in the 40s, all the water on the ground is still frozen solid.

Paul,
Do I need to think about getting someone to turn the heat on in my house? Is it cold enough to burst water pipes??

Greg all I can say is that I spent a few hours this morning wrapping exposed pipes outside. There's a freeze warning for tonight and Saturday night.

I wish I was serious. I'ts still windy. And the cold really doesn't bother me all that much. Winter surfing keeps the blood pretty thick. Had a really fun coast session a couple of days ago. Sure, my hands were so cold at the end of the session that I couldn't unlock my car or unbuckle my harness, but that's really just a minor inconvenience! :)

Believe me, I've scoped out the Financial District "shoreline". There are a couple of piers that could serve as a good launch, but once in the water, there aren't too many places to get back out. And I really don't think a downwinder around Hunters Point to Candlestick is a very good idea!

yeah, if you break down in hunters point, you're better off in the freezing cold water than getting shot at on land. I work by the at&t park and I too have scoped out the area. In the end, it's only a 15 min drive to 3rd ave, so it's just not worth it if you ask me.
