Alameda/Sand/Tractors!!!!?

Post by Greg » Thu Dec 21, 2006 1:15 pm

Dear Alameda riders,
Am I mistaken or did I see (web cam) a tractor on Crown Beach!!!
If so, are they moving sand???
Should they be moving sand, will someone PLEASE go down and ask the drivers/formen to dig up or smash down the water hazards that have shown up as a result of sand loss. I think that moving the sand alone is great but "removing" the worst hazards is essentual to long term success and safty efforts!! The sand will move again and again..
THe major things to which I refer are the old pier posts near shore (sticking up 4-8 inches, just in front and up wind of the Shack and a "sharp" metal thing (that seems to be attached to something much bigger under water) about half way between the Shack and the large bathroom complex about 2 bloks North. This object is about 100-150 feet off shore and can only be located at minus tides. NOTE: the metal only stuck up a few inches last time I "located" it.
If these objects dont get delt with, EXPECIALLY the metal thing, someone IS going to get serously messed up, it's only a matter of time!
Happy kiting,
Greg

Yeah, thats right in front of our place. Looks different from what they normally do but I am sure they are just resurfacing the sand banks as always. Also, those 4 pylons up at the shack werent there recently. Someone did something about it. What else is there? Even inbetween the rocks looks tame compared to 2 years ago. Anything else you want to email me I will go ask them right now.

the metal thing is about the only issue then I guess. That will only be visible on minus tides.
Thanks,
Greg

If they are moving sand.. why dont you get some little lawn sprinkler flags @ Pagano's to mark what ever you find (LOW TIDE) and then ask the operator to simply RUN OVER the posts (etc) as they move sand around, they (objects) will probably smash right down. (?)
The metal object is located about where I noted already, it's not big, it's just VERY SCARY becouse it will do major damage (tear you right open) if it is ever hit with a body (knee- butt etc..)

Greg, those posts arent there anymore. Someone flushed them off this last season or the sand covered them up a bit more because last time I went out there they were visible but not obtrusive. As for the wire, if it is really that far out and only a few inches out of the water then how on earth do you tell them to find it? Being as though that sand bank is smack dab in front of our place I see the guys when they are out but I wouldnt know the first thing to ask them if I couldnt find it myself.
