I forgot to even mention snow kiting. Maybe another thread is in order!

Oh, here's another tip- put your wetsuit on while at home, and drive to the beach fully suited up. it makes getting out in the cold much easier. If you can't do that, stuff your wetsuit into the foot section in the passenger seat of your car and crank the heat. your wetsuit will be nice and toasty when you're ready to put it on.

Gloves is mostly all you need. I have mine from a shack kleen up day nearly two years ago. the pair does not match but who cares. I already had two sessions with them now as my fingers get cold really fast.

I just recall Charlies nice hat he had over the winter. I am already missing that beauty. G

Anyone who's snowkited in Tahoe area knows it's really hit or miss and like Josh said, you need to have a backup plan for downhill.

In my experience, daytrips are tough because you can miss out on downhill by wasting hours checking the riding spots. A weekend trip sounds like the right idea.

Also, most of the snowkite spots in Tahoe take a while to build up enough base for riding, so don't plan on doing any snowkiting until at least a month after downhill season starts.

Yup, season's over. It's dark early and we are only holding out hope of nasty, wet gusty storm winds. Sounds like snow kiting is the ticket.

And one tip - if you do decide show up at the coast over the winter, I'd have to say wearing yellow kitchen gloves and a wool beanie is nothing but an invitation to a good old-fashioned window waxing :)

Sorry, knyfe -but the surfer in me pictured someone showing up to my local break with yellow gloves had me laughing. Plenty of surfers go year 'round in 4/3's with no gloves and no caps or hoods. And a pretty big percentage of surfers don't even wear booties. At some places, you're probably going to get picked on if you show in in anything but an all black wetsuit.

Surfers have just a little bit more time during their sessions to sit around and yak about stuff like what color other people's gear is.

One day I went out on the North Coast and was the only kiter in a pack of surfers. They thought I looked funny, but after a while they were crying instead of laughing at how much time I spent riding compared to them.

The season sure wasn't over on Wednesday. Hope you got some that day, gloves or no gloves.

Wear what you want
Let your riding do the talking
And leave the frat boy antics at home
