Off Season Sacramento Kite Buddys

Post by Proparoo » Sun Sep 17, 2006 11:44 am

Well it's the end of the season here at Rio and now I am looking for some time on the water at Folsom Lake...

If you will be going to Folsom durring the Fall, Winter & Spring and would like to exchange contact information please PM me.

I will always be interested in meeting new kiters and be willing to come down and help support you...

So feel free to drop me a line and we can keep in touch for some great days out at GB or Dyke 8...

I would like to hook-up with some locals to kite Folsom as well.

I was just out at Beals Point yesturday. We got an 11m up, but the wind was very inconsistant and I was unable to keep it up long enough to get going. I'd get on my board and get set to go and the kite would just fall to the water. We attempted it for 30 minutes and then gave up. If we had something bigger to fly (15m+) we would have been golden!

I think it would of been awesome to kite there if the wind had been more consisant or if I had a bigger kite. I've heard in the fall and winter seasons the weather can generate good conditions there.

Please PM me if your going out!!!

Rich, Folsom (Dyke 8) can be pretty good on those BIG north days that we get from time to time starting around this time of year. Don't ever bother with Sherman on the north wind days -- it's almost always unridable there.

Just head to Dyke 8 when the forecast says big winds from the north. There will be plenty of people there for you to kite with.

I'm out in Oakley but if there is good winter wind I'd like to check it out some weekend.

Shuttles available upwind from Pittsburg and Sherman all summer. Come see what kiting west has to offer.

Today was a great day on the lake . There were several kiters out at Dyke 8. Tomorrow and definitely Friday look good according to the NWS. Come check it out.

Upwind Dave speaks the truth...

Like swiming in drinking water...

It was about 85 degrees, I was on my 11m sonic, some were out on 10m and even one 9m. I would say it was blowing around 18 - 22.
Most of the time we were totally powered, some times over and sometimes under but totally worth it.

After launching at Sherman all Summer, it was great to have an easy launch & land situation, nice grass to set your kite on and lots of room.
The water was great with swells over most of the lake and flat water in the cove next to where we launch.

The State charges $7 to park and a pass is like $90 but good at all State facilities.

Here is one big differance, when I kite with my sunglasses at Sherman I get water spots and need to clean them, at Folsom they are totally clean and spotless, sooooo nice, also it was a 7 mile drive and 20 minutes door to door...

So I would never rave about Folsom in light winds (under 30mph) when I was Windsurfing, but kiteing is the ticket...

hope to see you all at the lake...

Tomorrow you might need a smaller kite. Thanks for the heads up, I've always wanted to find someplace to kite on N. wind days in the valley.

What road do you take to get to Dyke 8? I've never been to Folsom Lake.

It says 10M, but it's really a 9.
