Another one goes down

Post by Live2KITE » Mon Aug 07, 2006 3:40 pm

Last weekend was epic at Sherman. Excellent winds, good friends, very very enjoyable. Sunday Zeev hurt himself and we were all shocked and shaken but he was back in the afternoon being the tough cookie he is.

From 5 to 7pm the winds had picked up to 25-32mph range, and a few of us stayed with our RRD 13m HiR focusing on orbital type jumps, sealing the end of the weekend with big smiles in our faces. (despite the triple tangles from some Link demoers on my kite).

Next morning as I was getting off bed I suddenly couldn't put any weight on my right knee. It was unexpected and seemed very localized to the inside part of the knee.
Headed to the local ER in Marin General but X-Rays were clean. At least there were no fructures, but the meniscus was surely swallen and tender.
Same day at the ortho's office I was getting an MRI and 3 days later during the reading the truth was revealed.
Torn meniscus and full meniscus dislocated. During the testing the meniscus flipped and locked my knee.....now that is a good load of pain!!! Putting it back was even worst.

Next day, I was admitted to the surgery room, where my meniscus was getting stitched and repaired, and put back in the original position.

Results:
- 3 weeks immobilized on a brace
- 3 months to be back in walking regularly and bending the knee up to 125 degrees.
- 6 months recovery

Amazing how within 5 days you can be from sending it at Sherman and having a good time with the crew to being totally disabled and hoping that you will be in shape from next summer.

Spirits are still high though. I had a good season this year with 60-80 days in the water and I can't complain.

You boys and girls have a great time out there and see you soon!

I want to thank all my friends who have made it over and help me go through these first days. I owe you huge.

:P

Thx guys - I trully appreciate it.
I wanted to make it to Sherman this weekend but I was advised that crutches and sand don't mix very well :-)
Maybe one of the next weekends? Let's see..... So far I am in a lot of pain though....

Brother,

As one person who has paid his share of dues this year (and hopefully for the next few years), I wish you a speedy recovery my friend.

You now have more time to shower the kids with love!!!

Get some, Z.

Thx Z - You know how it is to sacrifice your body parts at Sherman more than most of us. This is my second leg that is being taken care by the Sherman Gods. I broke my left knee when I was learning at Sherman in 1999, and now there goes the right knee 7 yrs later.....

Can't wait for the wife and kids to come back on Friday - it's been not easy without them, although it's been overwhealming that so many friends and clients have come over to offer their help the past days.

Cheers,
Evan

Evan,
Sorry to hear of your misfortune, Thats a real bummer!!
I recommend tons of orange juice and seaweed, then double up on gluosamine! It will take weeks to show some results but it will help.
Take care,
Greg

Evan,

Foget Greg's recommendation. Try Viagra. It increases blood flow to all vital organs.
