Good thing for us you don`t know how to use a cell phone or a camera you moron...
Dude from Waves - you appear incorrigably selfish, clue-less and short-sighted. LMG is doing a generous deed for the kite community (and also possibly preserving kiting for himself, too). He has observed (and knows what he is looking at) how bad it has been in previous years on the 4th of July and it would only be expected to be worse this year (as it has been at most spots). Accordingly, he is suggesting a self-imposed kiting moratorium at Crown Beach to protect innocents on the beach. And, he has said if he sees dangerous behavior he will call in authorities.

He does have better things to do... but he has decided to give back to the community (a concept you clearly don't understand - too bad for you). Like Rick C., I too will voluntarily not kite Alameda on the 4th and other crowded, unsafe days ... and support Greg.

Lionkite, you might as well have just yelled in the lion's den. Not only was this comment a great way to make yourself un-welcome at the beach but you also just managed to insult someone who has successfully been the voice for us kiters here in the bay area for years-not to mention a friend. Be careful.

Fellows,
It's cool, leave him be...
My ways ARE unconventional and sometimes contriversial, every now and then I need a good kick-in-the-ribs to stay in controll.
I swear I'll stay cool! I'm only bringing the phone, camera and a few plastic bags.. and I promise I wont put them over anyones head, even if I feel that might doing the world a favor....

Big Kudos go out to you Greg. Without somebody looking out for the whole community and spending personal non-kiting time to help, we'd certainly lose access eventually. It's really only a matter of time before a nasty accident happens when you combine big crowds of curious beachgoers and irresponsible kiters.

The public has the right to safe first access, and we have to accept that on such busy days kiting simply isn't appropriate. If you are a newbe, take a break. If you're past the beginner stage, head to 3rd or Waddell where the innocent public isn't put at such great risk.

Thanks for keeping access open for everybody!

Cheers,

Gideon

for those of us who are walking, pls the lines to make sure that you dont have too much slack dangling behind you as you walk up the beach with kite in hand. i've seen lines get caught in logs/sticks, flags in sand castles, and kids obliviously to lines over their heads until they are in them...

Thats a really good point. I always look back when a kid is about to be hovered by my kite when walking up. Kids dont quite comprehend anything above eye level, so definately watch those lines.

And on the walking up the beach note, I STILL see so many newbies trying to walk the whole way back up the beach with the kite in the air! Drop the thing in the water, get used to it. Or better yet if you have a bow kite it is really easy to learn to self land. I will be more than willing to show you how to do this hands on if you find me on the beach.
