It's a good thing those kite didn't power back up halfway down, as that's a pretty sure way for someone to get hurt bad. Also, it seems pretty irreponsible for any kite company to ship a kite that is tuned to oversheet. Especially kites targeted at beginners.

That is an understatement. It was mayhem yesterday at SI, people throwing others' kites onto the bushes, following way too close behind, throwing air right in front of other kiters. I was half scared the entire time I was there. Given, I don't go to SI often so the only people I recognize is Paul, Dewey and a handfull I remember from last year. I am going to make sure it is not blowing anywhere else before I visit SI on a weekend again.

well you made the right choice as there was no wind anywhere else....ended up at a v cloudy and light wind Alameda (with its usual fair share of mayhem!)

I saw a guy launch a TD unhooked, and it kept stalling and falling backwards. Too much sheeting in I guess. Seems little weird to launch a bow unhooked, takes the point out of the safety system.

I think that was one of the problems this weekend, that there wasn't wind anywhere else. Plus, Ikite saying "Everyone should go to Sherman".

It seems like all the regulars are now launching by the picnic table on weekends. Only problem with that is that they (we) aren't as much of a presence at the beach so chaos is king.

S.O.S....
I've got one idea how to correct this chaos..., I think if everyone steped up and did more then there fair share once in a while, that would be EXTREMLY helpfull.
But its the SOS, 2 percent do 90% of the work- the rest are unaccounted for,

Yeah, I made the mistake of landing and launching at the beach. There was a few guys regulating the zone (Mike and few guys I remember from last year whose names I don't recall) which was definitely needed especially with people trying to launch directly behind the bushes (I thought that was odd).

Oversheeting is the problem... Can happen on any bow.... but the std is a particularly sensitive kite.... which is what I love about it...

About a month ago, I was fooling around in light winds and I could land the kite directly downwind of me... as if the kite had brake lines.... Sheeting out made the kite rise... oversheeting, and it would slowly back down.... If I really held it oversheeted it would fall...

When I ride, I usually have 3-6" of depower strap pulled.... When the kite comes stock, it is set up correctly, but the center lines definately stretch with time..... thus the need to pull the depower a bit...

I teach lessons on this kite, and tell people that it is a more difficult, higher-performance kite that does EXACTLY what you tell it to.... If you don't know what to tell the kite to do, you are much better off on a switchblade.... That being said, I have had many great Turbo Diesel lessons...

By the way, the 14 and 16 turbo diesel are much more stable... they came out about 5 months after the original batch.....

Also, I just started riding the 16m STD today... So far, it is exactly what I want my big kite to be... I am very impressed..... A 10 TD and 16m TD would be one of the rangiest 2 kite quiver I think possible... TD 16 from 8-17, 17-37 on the 10m....

Sounds like a foil kite -- sheet out to launch, sheet in to land. But then, you probably know that.

Andy, you are an amazing kiter! 10mph and treking upwind, 2 handle passes, a few unhooked backroll kiteloops and some riding blindness. I still dont know exactly how you get all 250lbs of you to go further upwind than the rest of us but all the more too ya!
