Ollie, could you make a link that was simple to read on paper such as bayareakiteboarding.com/alameda? This way we keep one main site. Next step would be to print stickers, or a flyer or something cheap and small(I will pay for this) where people can easily go home type it in and see everything they need to know wothout having to search for it. This site is great but as a newbie it takes a little time to get used to and to be a part of the alameda discussion you have to be approved by you-I think, is it still that way?

Let's face it, very few people(LMG and LMC as exceptions) are going to yell at people if they see them doing something they don't like unless it is life threatening. Plus, we are normally on the water when someone decides to hot launch their kite with reversed lines.

Re: Flyers etc.

I'm happy to put in some adobe illustrator time to make something that looks good. Given my total newbie status, I'll mock up something using the text on the BAKB site now, and will try to put in a map that is clear if y'all would like. I'll put up a link once I've got it together and await suggestions/ flame (Yes, I am trying to avoid putting in time in excel building financial models today).

I think there are some exceptions to the rules during certain times of the year. For example on a rainy stormy day when no one is at the beach what is the big problem? I can understand on a hot summer day when there are 40 plus kiters and wall to wall people on the beach but come on. I for one will always kite at Alameda all be it if I have to launch from bay farm. I mean it is fair to say that maybe we make a bad example on these days but I always follow the rules on busy days.

Yeah, I have been argiung that point for a year now. But it is no different than the cops telling you it is ok to run a red light if there is noone around. Just dont get cought. So yes, I agree, as most here do, that when there are no beach goers, do what you will within reason. But that cant be printed or it would get abused.

I dont know what day the season officailly starts, I guess it is the next warm day with wind but we should maybe all meet up and have one more small meeting so all the mouths can speak. It sounds like we have the will and funds and skills right now to get things printed. I do this all the time for work so I am not un-used to it. We have an adobe illustartor wizard, I will take things to press and do any pre-press stuff. We really just need to decide on what it is going to say. I think that we should re-make the sign at the beach with new layout and clearly laid out guidlines. I also think we should post the same info on an easy to get to site (preferably BAKB) and print this link on everything. this will not only get more people part of bakb but also keep the info consistant. LMG, you are the only one I know that has connections with the city, so maybe you could coordinate getting a key to that display case to swap signs? I know there are some other important voices that havent said anything in response to this. Boardsports ladies, Ollie, LMG, Charlie,Bob, Silvia, Ardee, Jeff, Emily,Andy... speak up, let's get this done before the nice weather hits. You are the voices that are listened to and heard.

An alameda kiteboarding Flyer for the season: pass 1

Post by busski » Thu Mar 16, 2006 6:53 pm

Hi All,

I hade a little time to fiddle with Adobe, so here's a first pass at a potential flyer for the upcoming season. If you think it might be a good idea, let me know and make suggestions as you see fit.

Here's the PDFs of the front and back in blue:

And here are some images:

I couldn't get a kiter from Alameda, so some google-imaged guy got turned into a vector graphic. I'll happily replace him with Andy or some other young turk of the beach. The images are small, so take a look at the PDFs if you can. They're a little on the large size, as I haven't had time to optimize them, and the fonts are boring, but it's a start.

That's actually something I would not have thought to put on a flyer or sign. I like the idea reccomending an order. Pump kite, put on wetsuit, rig lines, get out! Cause this is just as big an issue for other kiters to deal with as it is for the public. I cant stand when a newbie has his freakin lines laid upwind and everyone else is rigging down wind PARALLEL to eachother. I would say that is my biggest peave there. I am going to make 2 signs. One that goes where the old one is and the other above the bench or something.
