Beach edicate
Dont know the details yet, but it has to do with complaints
from beach goers of people flying their kites over them
and their kids on the beach. When the issue comes up I will
suggest a "blackball system" like the coastal lifeguards use
to change parameter rules when needed, for instance:
Black ball flag up= land in a defined location way downwind,
OR self rescue, and no walking up beach with kite in air.
Since staying upwind is not a problem
for experienced riders, it will make the newbes work a
little harder, which is good practice for them anyway.

I was thinking more along the lines of land mines set in a strategic locations. Kiters would avoid them, families would not. Easy solution to dealing with the public. Kidding. Ok maybe not funny. But seriously...
Lets figure this out so I can get it printed on that new sign. I would say we should look at getting a marker that indicates where to come in at the bottom end of the beach somewhere. So basically if you want to do the downwinder, just go for it the whole way down. I guess the big issue, no matter what happens, is getting the authority to make this "self-implied" regulation as known to the public as it is to ourselves, which by the nature of it doesnt seem very likely. So if doing things Charlie's way keeps this sport alive here in Alameda, I am all for it. And for those who don't know Charlie's way: Kite in hand when you hit the sand-below the antenna at this point.
All I would say is to not fight anything the city says at this point, just do it and see how it works for now. Any thing we come up with here will have to somehow make sure it gets to EVERY kiter at Alameda. Which is why everyone on here should get everyone else on here that isnt already. I am curious to see what this new stuff is that the city is enforcing. Let's pray that it does not involve a circle with a line through it!
