There is a significant benefit at this time to buy 2005 gear, mostly when it comes to the Type Wave kites which were revolutionary (and still are) in the kiting world.
There will always be new features / functions / adjustements / modifications as the new gear comes out every year, but for the budget conscious you can't go wrong buying 2005 brand kites in 50% below retail!
BTW - the 2005 RRD Martin Vari signature boards are now $350 complete with pads, straps, fins.
Sizes available 132x40 and 128. Only a few of those left.

Is the depower on the Type Wave similar to bows or is it a different animal? My short experience with bows is that the top end and the usable wind range are truly remarkable.
So for example, I can use the SB9 form 15 MPH (have to work it hard) to almost 30 with no drama, and maybe even more. I did not try more, but I didn't feel I hit the top end of the kite. The depower works very well. Does the type wave behave the same?

Elli,
I don't know about the bottom end, but 30 knots on a 9m kite is pretty standard. The main hype with the bows now seem to be the low end for some reason. I've always been interested in the topend. Would is still be fun after 35?? I find many kites doable at higher limits, but not fun. I was reading about the Halo and the topend seems about the same as a C kite. What I want to know what is the fun range in for the kites, not the extreams.

Dewey.....I have to say that 30k true wind around the bay is pretty rare. Even the smacking days at rio rarely if ever show sustained, average wind of 30.....and that is mph, not knots.
I am saying that after my go out with Zeev at Dillion. We had 35 KNOTS sustained breeze, gusting mid 40's. Have you ever seen Zeev OP on a 7 at Rio....ever? I am pissed that I did not bring the 5 meter that I had in the garage. No way I would have dealt with the 9 meter.
I have not flown a flat kite, so I cannot say how it compares with the wave. Hey, why the heck are we all slaves to our desks on such a fine day?!

That was a windy day...at least you and Z came in with all your parts...unlike me. I was lit on the seven and the winds were definetly sustaining 30+. Ever tried swimming in the sharkiest waters on the planet for 1.5 hours in 30+ winds? What would you say that was Bob. .25 mile, .5 mile? Happy to still have all my limbs.whitecap wrote:Dewey.....I have to say that 30k true wind around the bay is pretty rare. Never saw when you lost the kite, so I am not sure how far out you were. The funny part was when Jim Johnstone and I went looking for you on the bluffs. As we tried to make headway on the bluffs, we got fully sandblased in the face.....could not even open eyes very well....Looked out there, as far as we could see, and thought...'hope Gabe is a good swimmer!'
