dealbst, thanks for your efforts, but the stick is still there. Actually, it's more like a "post"--I estimate it at 4x4.dealbst wrote:I think I removed the stick. I threw it for a dog. He was very happy :animals-dogrun:
I was driving back from the Racetrack yesterday and since the tide was pretty low I decided to venture out and take a look. I could only get to within about 20 feet of it before I was in chest-high water and sinking into the mud--I think my original estimate was off, it's more like 150 feet or so from shore. I snapped some pictures (see below) with my phone. I believe low tide was at 3:30 pm and I was there around 5 pm.
The post doesn't seem to be moving around a whole lot which gives me the impression it's pretty firmly planted in the sand, and not just some piece of junk that floated over there. So far, it looks like removal is going to require a little more than just walking over to it and plucking it out. But some of you probably know a lot more about these operations than I do. Don't know how feasible it would be, but hopefully all this will at least give you a heads-up so you can be cautious when riding in that area.
Here's the approximate location (courtesy of Google maps):
This is what it looks like from about 20 or 30 feet away. There's probably about four or five feet of it hidden underwater:
Here's what you see on the shore when you're lined up with the hazard. This is the first large set of trees you'd pass after launching:
This is approximately where you're lined up in relationship to the Point (actually, the hazard is about 20 feet further out):
This is to give you an idea of where the tide was when these photos were taken:
