Anyone has any good solutions for the problem of fresh water going into the sinuses while wiping out? I usually as a result have a clogged nose while I sleep at Sherman after a day of wiping out.
I tried nose clips like they use in synchronized swimming in the Olympics but keep losing them, plus the "can you give me a launch" line comes out in a funny voice :)

Neti Pot post session after surfing and kitesurfing
You have to adjust to the sensation of using it but once you do it's the best - it feels better not letting whatever is in that water dry in your sinuses

Bend down so your head is upside down at your knees. Shake it around a little, then stand up and let the water drain out. Repeat as necessary.
I find that getting most of the water out keeps me from getting stuffed up.

+1 on the Zertec if it gets bad! Try to avoid the sprays if possible. They can cause 'rebound inflammation' with continued use which makes you want to use more. Once in awhile is ok, but more than a day or two can begin to cause problems. FWIW (comes form my pops who is an ENT doc so it's legit)
I think I died when I tried the netti pot!

Re: Nose water
The neti issue happened when people were using tap water in them despite the instructions calling for distilled water
The tap water used in the two incidents that were fatal contained some kind of amoeba that got into the people's system through the nasal passage. Previously it was only kids / young adults falling victim to it because they were the only ones cannonballing off docks into infected water and getting it up their nose
The lesson is if you're going to neti use either distilled or boiled tap water

Re: Nose water
Placing more water into the sinuses with a neti pot might actually cause more breathing difficulties. Neti pots should only be used on healthy sinuses, and it sounds like there might be an underlying issue with his sinuses.Anyone has any good solutions for the problem of fresh water going into the sinuses while wiping out? The OP needs to go see an ENT, Ear, Nose and Throat Doc to have his sinuses checked out. Sounds like he might have nasal polyps, which would result in the breathing difficulties he describes. Generally nasal polyps are benign, but there is a papilloma variety that can be malignant. Generally primary care doctors are not equipped to diagnose this, that is why I recommend seeing a specialist.

Re: Nose water
I noticed last week that I breathe out my nose as I wipe out. I wouldn't recommend doing that during big swells as it's nice to have that oxygen while underwater.
