Trick Of The Week!

Post by dpca10 » Tue Jul 19, 2011 11:59 am

I wanted to start a thread so people can post what they are working on this week. In an effort to find new ways to destroy my body and clear my sinuses i've found some great tricks on the web. I think to help encourage my progression i'll post the trick or tricks i'll be working on this week. Hopefully others will want to join me. Please post videos or descriptions of your TOTW, and after working on it any advice for the rest of us. **For instructions on how to embed a video see the bottom of this post. And by the way, if you can do these tricks and have advice for doing them better or your experience throw it in!

So this week 7/17-

Trick #1:

The Darkslide:

some tips after working on it:
-get a good load and actually pop before starting it, falling forward just increases the chance youll have the board pulled off your feet..
-Figure out which is your back leg, which you straighten: sounds stupid but if I didn't really think about it before hand I was often dragging the wrong side of my board and it doesn't feel as clean.
-Loop the kite hard at the end and point right at it. This helps you come out clean, a good way to speed up the loop and slow down the force is to put your hand way on the outside of the bar.

Trick #2:

Kung -Fu

Some tips:
This trick can go from mellow to scary. Depending on how hard you send it or oversend it
-Big thing again is to figure out what hand you are letting go with. It's your back one, if you let go at the top with the wrong hand (which I did once) you will swing out and fall like a stone
-Start slow and send your kite from 1 to 10 after unhooking.
-Keep your hands close to the center.
-Try to swing your legs out and superman after throwing your arm down.
-After the kite flys above you grab the bar with both hands and you will float down
-What I found is letting go with your hand is the hardest part, make sure your hands are close to the middle of the bar.

Good luck

Sweet idea! I've been working on nailing my jumps and boosting bigger.

Also, pop-180 to toeside for my transitions and then downloop transitions which are especially useful in light wind conditions like today. After you get the downloop transition it's an easy step to a full loop, so I think it's a good progression move.

Tips:
- master heelside carve turns first with the kite overhead
- fear is your biggest enemy if you haven't ever looped the kite - you must commit and DO NOT stop half way through
- to initiate the loop you're going to pull hard with your front hand - easiest way to do this is to first bring the kite up to 12 to give it the most room to loop, move your hand to the outside of the bar, pull hard, commit, do not let go until the kite is flying the opposite direction
- if you get yanked off your board don't forget to keep pulling the kite through the loop even if you're crashing or you'll crash the kite too

Does it make a difference which way you spin on the flat 360?

At 3rd it seems easier to go frontside going out. ie: bar pass from right to left. when the tide shifts to an ebb nice swell will hit the two sandbars on the way out. wind should be like yesterday wnw. If it is like 2 days ago the direction is no good.
