broken donkey dick

Post by flyboy » Sat Feb 13, 2010 5:26 pm

Hi,

I have broken two donkey dicks on my 09 Slingshot rev kite bar while snow kiting. The part is held onto the chicken loop with a screw that is put through a piece of rope inside of a pvc tube. This design seems like it would be problematic... Has anybody else had a problem with this? Any idea how to modify the design so this wont happen? I use a mystic firestarter harness if that is relevant.

Thanks,
- Matt

Oh yeah, I recognize the symptoms, looks like the classic case of wonky dicks.

These things tend to break when they are in an unusual position and under stress. Are you doing something different? Certain moves that may cause the front lines to become loose and the chicken loop to partially disengage from the hook and place unusual stress on the aforementioned dicks?

could also have a lot to do with the fact it probably got wet and froze. Just the cold weather alone could make it brittle enough to break easily. Your best bet, next to buying a newer bar, is to just put a zip tie on your hook and use that instead.

The harder solution would be to maybe find some better plastic tubing and run a small bolt through the whole assembly.

I had no problems when riding all summer so the breakage probably has something to do with freezing. A zip tie is an excellent idea for a temporary fix. For the long run I will try to rig something like this:

i believe you can buy aftermarket donkey dicks that attach to the spreader bar as opposed to the CL. just buy one of those instead...

broke the donkey dick on my Slingshot 08 T3 last weekend in the snow and I assumed it was due to freezing. The screw just snapped in half. I see they have some spare donkey dicks on slingshot website for $15 so I'll probably just get one of those for replacement vs revisiting the design for now so I'm ready for water.

I broke one a few weeks ago. Went to the local hardware store, got a stainless bolt with locknut and 8 inches of fuel hose. $2.60 total and I was back out the next day. Haven't had a problem since.

i have the same issue, i also have an '08 slingshot rev bar. the bar was in storage room the past 4 months and when i went out on water today it just broke off. i kited without donkey dick and was able to stayed hooked into chicken loop even when jumps and doing back loop. it did unhook a few times, i figured it just forced me to learn riding unhook, no biggy. but does anyone know if the torn rope that the donkey dick attached to is gonna give me any problem? Is it gonna make the safety chasis more prom to other malfunction?

You can replace the black tube with a vinyl tube that you can get in most hardware stores for pennies. Then rebuild the whole thing.
I don’t miss the days when I built my own bars :)
