First working parties constituted
Monday, 18 May 2009 13:28
The Expansion Commission and the Olympic Commission have been constituted as first IKA working parties. Now it is up to some specialists comittees to start working on the development of kiteboarding.
While the Expansion Commission is intended to help new national class associations to be founded and to make a proper start into the organization of their national issues, the Olympic Commissions task is to develop a strategy and format for the olympic games, that represents kiteboarding as an inidvidual sport.
With the likes of Michael Gebhardt, two time olympic medalist and Bruno de Wannemaker, olympic Race Officer, amongst others, the best specialists are now working on the task to get kiteboarding into the olympics, while officers from the national class associations of Germany, Great Britain and France will help interested groups in countries from all over the world to start their own national associations, run first national events and bring them step by step into the IKA family.
More information about the IKA sub-committees as well as scope of work and members can be found here:

Re: IKA working to get kiteboarding into the Olympics
I think this is great, but i see a problem.
I'd think it will be nearly impossible, or at least very lucky, to have kitable conditions at an Olympic summer games during the small window or time. What if the games are in Chicago? No lake wind then. Or in country without kiting at all? How far away will they currently go to hold windsurfing/sailing events?

i agree with EAG
They do windsurfing indoors and i highly doubt the same could ever be done with kiteboarding and the locations around the world are limited. But i still think it should be an Olympic sport :)

Much respect for anyone who can do any inverted tricks on a windsurf rig. But still, to me that whole setup is just way too much like a hamster wheel in a cage. Plus, to do that for kiting, you'd need a pool stuck inside the superdome or something, and you'd need a whole lot more fans.

Hello Bulldog,
That is some funny sh*t!!! But so true... a forward roll on a windsurfer is a tuff move even outside with a lot of room!! to jump, and roll, most of the time the top of the mast hits first, and then the board finds your face fo sho...my first roll on a windsurfer took out two of my teeth still hurts when I smile."
