Kicker/ SHERMEN

Post by Greg » Mon Jun 30, 2008 9:13 am

Attention kiters,
Behind the second island at Shermen you will see the kicker ramp. A big dred-loked kid named Eric (flys Sonic kites) will be setting the ramp up for everyones usage this week. Eric has assumed the role of looking after the ramp and setting it up- taking it down.

PLEASE TALK to ERIC BEFORE riding the ramp!
No NOT move the ramp without Eric!!
The ramp is not a dock, DO NOT hang-out on it.
PLEASE WEAR a HELMET!!! An impact vest or like jacket is also advised!!
If you see any problems or hear of any problems involving the ramp please contact Eric A.S.A.P..
I will not be back to Shermen untell the July 4th weekend, so please speak to Eric in person about your situation BEFORE proceeding on your own!!!!

Thanks, Greg

OK, I don't kite Sherman much, but when I do, I love to jump the island. Now, yesterday, the ramp and the activities associated with the ramp were just plain in the way. Now, ramps and kiteboarding are lame to begin with, you can not hold an edge on a ramp so boosting high is not an option. If you want to build your ramp, go somewhere where you are not getting in the way of people who want to ride the traditional island and boost over the reeds. This is not the first time a ramp has been put in this position, so in the future, take the ramp somewhere else and don't spoil a great spot.

Thanks,
Jono

JonoSF,
The ramp is probably going to be in that position many times in the next week. I suggest looking before leaping...
As far as the ramp being a obstical in your way of "traditional riding", it will only be in position when it's being used. First come-first served..
As far as someone having a problem with the riders, take that up with them.
As far as the ramp being lame in comparison to waves, they at not comparable as they are both too different to compare. As far as other lame commentary goes, "don't blame that which you do not understand", And ONCE you understand it, PLEASE explain it to me, IN PERSON, so that I may come to understand as well.

Have fun!!

Remember, there is jono and jonosf -- two different people ;).

I busted jumps behind the island and just watched out for people hitting the ramp, it's just like someone jumping with their kite (and usually less hang time) going right, and if you jump going left, just keep your eyes open.

People who have more guts than I and hit that ramp deserve to have it out there a couple weekends. Plus all the damn work that went into making and dragging that thing out to the island (including the driving). We are lucky to have people who are so handy and build such things. It's mostly the locals who hit it and not people who don't kite Sherman much.

There's lot's of water at Sherman, and the thermals or whatever they are are actually better behind the 1st island so bust out there or just keep your eyes open near the ramp.

JonoSF: dude, why post things like that? I would say there were many more people who enjoyed the kicker (or watching it) than those that didn't. Besides, the kicker was approved by the Sherman Safety Crew.

-I would like to give special thanks to Jono for his help and support. This weekend would not have happened without him! Andre'Your the GREATEST!

-I would also like to give MANY thanks to Josh, Josh came over to my shop a number of times to help with construction, he was also the first to my assistance on the launching of this thing. Josh, it was GREAT to see you out there hitting that thing, RIGHT ON BRO!!

-Yuri is also a major contributor, constructor and inspiration behind the making of this contraption, without him the ramp would be just another weird idea of mine. MANY THANKS are due for all he's done to see this thing through.

Thank you!, Greg Boyington
