3rd ave hospitality

Today I had an amazing session at 3rd ave. It was my first time riding in the area and I'm supremely impressed with how helpful everyone was. I was greated very kindly at the launch and was quickly explained the local customs.

I'd like to really thank everyone. There were 3 or 4 times when my board came off and drifted a bit upwind and it was repeatedly grabbed by someone passing by and left for me a bit down wind. =D>

All and all a perfect day of riding, the wind was great, easy to stay up wind, even landed a few jumps.

Overall really, really impressed and again would really like to thank everyone down at third ave for their hospitality and welcoming a foreigner (Canadian) to their spot.

I just hope the weather is as good for the rest of the week as it was today. (knock on wood)

I was out on a 12 m black and white north.

Damn. i missed a good day at 3rd? The wind looked super good. I had to work all day and went out fo a short session at Crissy and it was okay but nothing special.
Ill def be down at 3rd most of the day tomorrow!

There was a French guy out there blocking the jump area for some time, I hope he didn't ruin your session.

yep. 3rd is a friendly place.... lately, with more people in the sport, it has become a bit more crowded, so people do, inevitably get in the way or screw up (i know i've messed things up a few times).

it's always the dude you don't know who screws things up. perhaps it's because he doesn't know the rules, or perhaps it's because we don't know him so we're not willing to cut him as much slack. in any case, it seems that's where localism originates.

Ryan, you did the right thing. introduce yourself, be friendly and courteous and you'll build up the goodwill so that when you do screw up and annoy everyone, people won't be pissed...although they still might make fun of you.

saying thanks is key too. I rescued a guy's board the other day and he was really unappreciative. i was pretty shocked considering there was no way he could have body dragged to it. I'll spare you the details, but i'll think twice about helping him out again.

there was another time that i got a launch from a nice lady, but I forgot to say thanks. I felt pretty bad. It might seem petty, but saying thanks for a launch and landing goes a long way too.

There is an unspoken etiquette amungst all kiters that is frequently subsided due to an overwhelming desire to be the center of attention but...

To the kiters who cant go out more than 50' before cutting everyone off to do another jump and fucking up the whole rythm of the line, why don't you count to 100 in your head when heading out after a jump, let someone else show their stuff, then turn around and get in the back of the SINGLE file line. Being as though this one guy on a vegas does this religously I am thinking of filming it and posting it on here to set as an example. i can only imagine he is the kind of person that flies through the carpool lane to cut everyone off that has been patiently waiting.

Perhaps we need a buoy out a little ways that forces people to go around it before heading back in. It is a spectator sport but cummon, dampen your desire to be seen for 100 seconds and the jump area will be much more organized, everyone will get to jump and have some downwind room...VOILA

Yuri, that carpool lane metaphor is great. I was talking to a guy the other day who told me about his "secret" for getting through the Hwy. 24 tunnel more quickly; to get off at the 2nd to last exit and jump the line by coming in at the last entrance before the tunnel.

I thought, "so you're one of those assholes who doesn't realize how much everyone else on the freeway hates you when you do this". Either that or he doesn't care. He seemed kinda proud about it. Good thing he can't land his jumps even though he's been kiting for years.

What was it Charlie said a while back, "Don't kite the way you drive". I guess it depends how you drive...
