I was curious if any one ever had any problems with the airlines.
I am going to Texas and Florida. Iím a little
worried about the safety of my kite, hope they donít tear it apart in
a security check point.

I fly about 200,000 miles a year of which my kites do about half....in a NSI golf bag (3 kites and board usually)

I always check it and keep it under the weight limit and I've never paid or had damage to any of them.

mostly with United.

A kiter once came to the shop for a bladder repair after TSA opened the LE zipper & didn't close it... always check your gear!!

I've flown American, United, Alaska, Continental, SouthWest, Jet Blue and others to Maui, Florida, Hatteras, Gorge, Bahamas, Corpus, South Padre, LA, Orange County, San Diego, the DR...never any damage and no extra charge as long as you are under 50lbs and your bag is as small as possible...usually take 3 kites and a board. Usually have my bars, helmet, etc in with my clothes. One in a while they loose your bag for a few hours and I am aware of some minor board damage (tips) experienced by others.

Continental charged me $80 when I flew back from Padre with my golf bag, but they didn't charge me on the way there. It was under 50lbs, I just got unlucky and the agent recognized it as a kite bag.
