Boardshorts

Post by mondo33 » Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:49 am

What is it with all the pics of people kiteboarding wearing boardshorts on top of a wet suit. I have been surfing a very long time and kiteboarders and skimmers are the only ones that I know who do it. Whats up people please explain it.

it originated from wakeboarding. why do I do it?

98% - it looks unbelievably cool
1% - it protects my wetsuit
1% - it has a key pocket!

Plus, kiting is a male-dominated sport and wet suits are kind of tight.

Its funny because I bought a pair of boardshorts at a surf shop in HMB and the guy asked what size i was, I said 32, but asked for a 33. he was baffled, so i told him it was to go over a wetsuit. He freaked out! Almost wouldnt even sell them to me because he thought that was so rediculous. I told him to come to our neck of the woods and he would see it all over. But the old timer surfers see it as wearing socks over your shoes!

But yes, they look cool, they hold both my keys and they keep the ladies from going crazy over the junk-cause I'm taken!

Did it for a while but realized the complete lack of utility and it's actually quite annoying when the string goes loose and you end up kiting with the shorts around your knees or ankles. The last time I wore shorts I took them off at third and tossed them in the water.

Shuttles available upwind from Pittsburg and Sherman all summer. Come see what kiting west has to offer.

Key storage and neoprene wear prevention make them a must have for seat harnesses, IMO.

I wear a pair of black shorts over top just so they're unnoticeable - all because of this dumb debate!

BTW, I just use a pair of cheapo swim trunks from Costco. Is there any real benefit to using bona fide boardshorts? I can't seem to find a real pair for less than $50. It's a goddamn piece of fabric.

So I see that neoprene protection is a big one in there but pros use a lot of waist harnesses and boardshorts dont cover that high. personally I wouldn't be caught wearing them in a thousand years.
