Where to find the hardware used on the BRM CS bar?

Post by jjm » Sun Apr 19, 2015 12:53 pm

I'm in the process of building a bar inspired by the minimalist BRM CS (http://boardridingmaui.com/connection-system.html).

I scoured my parts bin and can get pretty close with a chickenloop-less release but would prefer the push-to-flag and separate pull-to-release entirely system BRM has.

I went to the West Marine in South SF and was hoping for a better selection of rando hardware parts. They had "sailing beads" (without holes on the side to run elastic band but can manage that with a drill) but I wasn't able to find anything resembling the steel pin piece used in the two releases. Is this a standard bit that could be ordered or something that BRM would have spec'd out for their factory to build?

I'm lacking the vocabulary to search for this part online (pelican release?), so does anyone know where to source something like this locally, or online, or maybe suggest some more standard off-the-shelf alternatives?

Thanks!

p.s actually the picture I posted looks like just a pin with an offset ring at the end like in leash releases and older chicken loops. Other pictures looks like it is built out a little beefier. Can any BRM riders post a higher-res picture of the release bits for the production bar?

Xor: thanks for the pictures.
JJM: Definitely looks like a custom part.
I've tried locating quick release pins in the past for building bars and never had luck. Please let us know if you find a solution. There is always the snap shackle option.

I just checked my short leash and it uses similar but different pin, I guess you can buy cheap used cabrinha or other leashes to get them

It's not a costume piece. It's straight from Cabrihna, the quick release on their leashes. I think the new Cabrihna leashes use different hardware now but lots of older leashes out there. I collect stopper balls whenever I find them and drill the holes they need to work.

Xor, i'd love to know how brm secures the steering leaders to the bar ends. can someone put up a pic of the bar end and the adjuster? -thanks, cayuga
