Small scale Beach debris clean up at 3rd Avenue yesterday

Post by manplesvanuatu » Mon Mar 09, 2015 12:07 pm

Hi All,
The past few days Cavian C and Tony P. conducted a small scale beach clean up/improvement for our launch access at Third Avenue in Foster city. Many volunteers showed up and removed the potential hazards that were present. I want to shout out a big thank you to them for the initiative cause they are making the place safer to us and our kites. An extra shout goes to Rob B. for his effort of using a gas powered saw to removed all scary looking rebars. There are currently more than a dozen of them. The beach erosion has reveled few new ones at the base of the wind sock. But the scariest ones has to be the ones at the exit of the launch.
The talk of removing them has been a 7 years talk:-) I am glad something has been finally done for this. Now I don't have to fear of getting myself impaled by those rusty rods:-)

If you feel that you did not get a chance to contribute to this effort, please feel free to bring a little plastic bag the next time you go kiting at third. If you see small glass remnents or hazardous objects on the beach please pick them up and put in your kite bag to be empty at the nearby trash can.

Your consideration is kindly appreciated. Our feet and kites will be much safer:-)
For future reference if you see a major potential hazard you dislike please make note and let us know. The regulars are all ears. It takes a community to make it a safer place for all of us to kite.

Thank you for reading

paul

Nicely done!
Wondering why I missed this clean up. Was something posted here on BAKS and I didn't see it?

Hi Le Noun,

Sorry that you have missed. It was low keyed and Cavian and Tony did not want to impose on your weekend off. Tony just did a few change to the place on his own. Cavian just mentioned it in her website (ThirdAvenueKite). Anytime you feel free to pick up a few glass pieces or objects you deem dangerous please do so. Even if it is 2-3 pieces. I open my foot at third many times before:-)

Thanks

paul
